How it works

How do you translate a Japanese recording into Spanish?

To translate Japanese audio to Spanish, drop the recording on this page. It listens for Japanese, writes each short piece in kanji and kana, and then translates the transcript into Spanish in batches of lines. Each Spanish line keeps its time, and Original shows the Japanese.

  1. 1

    Choose the Japanese recording

A 会議 with a partner in Osaka, a seminar, an interview or a voice message.

  2. 2

    Japanese first, then Spanish

Transcribed in Japanese and translated into Spanish, up to 30 minutes per recording.

  3. 3

    Use the Spanish

Copy it or save TXT or Word; the Japanese stays one switch away.

What if the Japanese transcript picks the wrong kanji?

The Spanish follows the kanji. Many Japanese words sound alike, and our transcription test wrote 軍刀 (sword) for 群島 (islands), both read guntō. The Spanish translates whichever word the transcript wrote, so check lines where a word looks out of place.

When a Spanish line says something odd, the time beside it takes you to the moment in the recording, and the Japanese under Original shows which characters were written.

What happens to Japanese politeness in Spanish?

It narrows to a choice between tú and usted. Japanese shows politeness in every verb ending (です and ます or plain forms) and in honorific words, while Spanish shows it only in the “you”. A polite business recording reads naturally with usted; check the Spanish keeps one form.

Who decides “he” or “she” in the Spanish?

The translation, from context. Japanese often names nobody and rarely marks gender, while Spanish endings must: “最近では…敗れています” came back as “Recientemente, ha sido derrotado”, masculine, which was right here. With no clue in the lines around it, check the recording.

Do katakana names come back correctly?

In our test they did: ラオニッチ came back as “Raonic” and ピケJr. as “Piquet Jr.”. Katakana writes foreign names by sound, so a less famous name can return with a different spelling; check names you already know against the Spanish.

How natural is the Spanish from Japanese?

Natural, in ten test sentences with a professional Spanish version beside them, and about two and a half times as many characters as the Japanese. Times took the Spanish form, “8:46 a. m.”.

フレッドは現在、時速105マイル(165km/h)の風速で北西に向かって進んでいます。
SpanishFred está actualmente avanzando hacia el noroeste con una velocidad de viento de 105 millas por hora (165 km/h).
この攻撃は、インドとパキスタンの関係に大きな負担をかけました。
SpanishEste ataque supuso una gran carga para las relaciones entre India y Pakistán.

FAQ

Questions about translating Japanese audio into Spanish

Is the Japanese to Spanish audio translator free?

Yes. 3 recordings a day, as long as 30 minutes each, with no sign-up. The Spanish, the Japanese transcript and the downloads are included.

Does the Japanese transcript have punctuation?

Not always. In our transcription test, more than half the pieces came back without 。 or 、, so the translation works out where sentences end from the words themselves.

Can I save the Spanish as a Word document?

Yes. The Word file starts with the recording’s length and “Translated: Japanese → Spanish”, then the Spanish paragraphs, with their times unless you switch them off.

What if the speakers switch to Spanish?

This page writes every part down as Japanese. For a recording in both languages, use the main audio translator with the spoken language on Detect automatically.

Does it name the speakers?

No. The Spanish transcript has words and times only. NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker in its transcripts.

Where does my recording go?

Short pieces of the sound go from your browser to a cloud AI transcription service, and the Japanese text to a cloud AI translation service; both discard it. NoteOwl stores no audio and no text.
