How it works
How do you turn Czech speech into English text?
To translate Czech audio to English, drop the recording on this page, which listens for Czech. The speech is transcribed in short pieces, then translated into English in batches of lines, and every line keeps its time. Read the English transcript, and open Original for the Czech.
- 1
Drop the Czech recording
A call, a voice note, a lecture or an interview: MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG or Opus.
- 2
Czech in, English out
Transcribed as Czech, then translated. Up to 30 minutes of each recording.
- 3
Keep the English
Copy it, or save TXT or Word; the Czech transcript saves on its own.
How does Czech word order come out in English?
Rearranged into English order. Czech can put the subject last: “kde drží silnou pozici Skype”, literally “where holds a strong position Skype”, came back as “where Skype holds a strong position”. A verb saved for the end, as in “byl … propuštěn”, moves forward too.
Because the transcript is translated a batch of lines at a time, a Czech sentence that the speaker spread over two lines is read as one before it is put into English.
Does the English stick to what the speaker said?
Yes. A Czech test sentence gave a storm’s winds as 150 miles per hour, where the English text it was translated from said 105; the English translation kept 150. Numbers and facts come from the Czech, so check a surprising one against the recording.
What happens to Czech names and case endings?
They return to their English forms. “s Raonicem”, Raonic with a Czech ending, came back as “Raonic”; “Velké ceně Maďarska” as “Hungarian Grand Prix”; “Piquet junior” as “Piquet Jr.”. The past-tense ending also gives English its pronoun: “prohrál” is masculine, so the English says “He”.
- Nedávno prohrál s Raonicem v Brisbane Open.
- EnglishHe recently lost to Raonic at the Brisbane Open.
- Útok vytvořil velký nápor na vzájemné vztahy mezi Indií a Pákistánem.
- EnglishThe attack created a major strain on the bilateral relations between India and Pakistan.

How well is Czech speech understood?
Well. Czech was transcribed well in our test, with the slips mostly in names and rare words, and a whole Czech recording translated into English rated good. A misheard word is translated as misheard, so an odd English word is worth checking in the Czech.

FAQ
Questions about translating Czech audio into English
Is the Czech to English audio translator free?
Yes. 3 recordings a day, up to 30 minutes each, with no account. The English, the Czech transcript and every download are included.
Will it handle Slovak speakers too?
This page transcribes everything as Czech. For a recording in Slovak, use the Slovak to English page, which listens for Slovak.
Can I read the Czech transcript as well?
Yes. Switch to Original for the Czech text with the same times as the English, and save it as text or SRT.
Can I get the English as a Word document?
Yes. The Word file starts with the recording’s length, “Translated: Czech → English” and the date, then the English paragraphs, with or without times.
Does the English show who is speaking?
No. The transcript has words and times without names. NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker in its transcripts.
Is my Czech recording uploaded?
No. Your browser keeps the file and sends short pieces of its sound to a cloud AI transcription service, then the Czech text to a cloud AI translation service; neither keeps what it receives, and NoteOwl stores nothing.
