How it works

How do you translate an English recording into Croatian?

To translate English audio to Croatian, drop the recording on this page, which listens for English and writes Croatian. The English is transcribed piece by piece, then translated in batches of lines that keep their times. Read the Croatian, compare any line with the English, and save it.

  1. 1

    Add the English audio

An MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG or other audio file: a lecture, a webinar, a client call, a voice message.

  2. 2

    English first, then Croatian

Up to 30 minutes of each recording are written down in English and translated.

  3. 3

    Keep the Croatian transcript

Copy it or save it as text or Word; switch Show to Original for the English version.

What does the Croatian transcript look like?

Paragraphs of Croatian, each starting with the time it was said in the recording. Saved as Word, it opens with the length and “Translated: English → Croatian”. The English transcript, with matching times, saves separately for quoting the original wording.

The times are what make a translated transcript usable: when a Croatian sentence reads oddly, go to that minute of the recording and listen to the English yourself. Untick “Times in the text” for a clean document to send on.

How does the Croatian address the people in the recording?

With the polite vi, all the way through. “Thank you all for coming today” became “Hvala svima što ste došli danas”, and even the casual “you know” came out as “znate”, not “znaš”. A transcript of friends chatting may want ti in places.

What does Croatian have to decide that English leaves open?

Gender, mostly. English “doctor” and “teacher” carry none, and Croatian must choose. In our test “Our doctor said she would call back” became “Naš liječnik je rekao”, losing the woman, and a mixed group of teachers became the masculine “Učitelji”.

Fillers keep a spoken feel: “Pa, znate…” holds the speaker’s hesitation, so a quote from the Croatian still sounds like talk rather than a press release.

Our doctor said she would call back tomorrow.
CroatianNaš liječnik je rekao da će nazvati sutra.
The teachers were tired after the trip.
CroatianUčitelji su bili umorni nakon izleta.
Dr. Patel and Maria Lopez will lead the session.
CroatianDr. Patel i Maria Lopez vodit će sesiju.
Well, you know, it’s kind of a big deal.
CroatianPa, znate, to je zapravo velika stvar.

What should you check before quoting the Croatian?

Words the English transcript may have misheard come first, because a wrong English word is translated exactly as written. Then genders, where Croatian had to guess, and the names of people and companies, which stay spelled as the English transcript wrote them.

How well does English translate into Croatian?

Well. In our test of 50 sentences, translation from English into Croatian scored above the dedicated translation system we compared it with, and the Croatian came out about as long as the English. Expect natural sentences rather than word-for-word ones.

FAQ

English audio into Croatian: questions

Is the English to Croatian audio translator free?

Yes: 3 recordings a day, up to 30 minutes each, with no account needed. The Croatian, the English transcript and every download come with it.

Can I save the Croatian as a Word document?

Yes. The Word file starts with the recording’s name, its length and “Translated: English → Croatian”, then the Croatian paragraphs with their times, or without them if you untick the times.

Does it produce Croatian speech?

No. The output is written Croatian: a transcript, a Word file or subtitles. There is no voice-over and no audio file.

What if the speakers switch into Croatian?

This page treats all the speech as English. For a recording that moves between English and Croatian, use the main audio translator with the spoken language on Detect automatically.

Are the speakers named in the Croatian?

Not on the web: the Croatian comes with words and times only. NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker in the transcripts it makes.

Does my recording leave my device?

Only as short pieces of sound, sent to a cloud AI transcription service; the English text then goes to a cloud AI translation service. Both discard what they receive, and NoteOwl keeps neither audio nor text.
