How it works
How do you translate an English recording into Finnish?
To translate English audio to Finnish, upload the file to this page, which listens for English and writes Finnish. The English is transcribed in short pieces, then each line is translated with the time it was spoken, and the Finnish transcript appears, ready to read or save.
- 1
Upload English audio
A meeting, a podcast episode, an interview or a voice memo: MP3, M4A, WAV and similar.
- 2
English, then Finnish
The English transcript comes first, then the Finnish. Up to 30 minutes per file.
- 3
Save it
Copy the Finnish or download text or Word. Original shows the English transcript.
What do you get in Finnish?
A Finnish transcript in paragraphs, each with the moment it was said. Paste it into a memo, or save a Word document headed “Translated: English → Finnish”. The English transcript, with identical times, is saved on its own.
Keep the times when you pass the Finnish on. If a reader doubts a sentence, the time points straight to the English words in the recording.
Does the Finnish lose “he” and “she”?
Yes, because Finnish has one word for both: hän. “Our doctor said she would call back tomorrow” became “Lääkärimme sanoi, että hän soittaa takaisin huomenna”. A Finnish reader learns nothing about the doctor’s gender, so add it in the text if it matters.
The upside: nouns carry no gender either, so “The teachers were tired after the trip” became a plain “Opettajat olivat väsyneitä retken jälkeen”, with no choice to get wrong.
Is the Finnish transcript formal or informal?
It moves between the two. A plain request used sinä (“Voitko lähettää minulle raportin ennen perjantaita?”), while “you know” became the plural-polite “tiedättehän” and “sir” brought out “Istukaa alas, herra”. For a document, pick one form and edit the rest to match.
A room of people
“Thank you all for coming today” became “Kiitos kaikille, että tulitte tänään”, plural, as it should be.
Fillers
“Well, you know, it’s kind of a big deal” → “No, tiedättehän, se on tavallaan iso juttu”.
Exclamations
“Wow! That’s amazing!” → “Vau! Tuo on hämmästyttävää!”
What should you check in the Finnish text?
Figures, times and any word the English transcript misheard, since that is translated just as it was heard. Prices came out Finnish style, “1 250 dollariin”, with a space between thousands, and the time as “kello 15.30”.
- The price went up by 6.5 percent to $1,250.
- FinnishHinta nousi 6,5 prosenttia 1 250 dollariin.

FAQ
Questions about translating English audio into Finnish
Is the English to Finnish audio translator free?
Yes. 3 recordings a day, up to 30 minutes each, without an account. The Finnish transcript, the English transcript and all downloads are included.
Can I save the Finnish as a Word file?
Yes. The Word document starts with the recording’s name, its length and “Translated: English → Finnish”, then the Finnish paragraphs with times, which you can leave out.
Will it read the Finnish aloud?
No. The Finnish is written text, a Word file or subtitles. There is no spoken Finnish.
What if someone in the recording speaks Finnish?
This page transcribes all the speech as English. For a meeting that switches between English and Finnish, use the main audio translator with the spoken language on Detect automatically.
Does the transcript show who spoke?
No. The Finnish transcript gives the words and the times. NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker in its own transcripts.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. The browser keeps the file and sends short pieces of the sound to a cloud AI transcription service, then the English text to a cloud AI translation service; each discards what it was sent. NoteOwl keeps nothing.
