How it works

How do you translate an English recording into Indonesian?

To translate English audio to Indonesian, drop the file here: the page expects English speech and writes Indonesian. The English is transcribed in short pieces, then translated line by line, each line keeping its time. Read the Indonesian, compare it with the English, then save.

  1. 1

    Add the English audio

An MP3, M4A, WAV or OGG: a webinar, a lecture, a client call or a voice note.

  2. 2

    Transcribed, then translated

English text first, then Bahasa Indonesia, for the first 30 minutes of each file.

  3. 3

    Keep the Indonesian transcript

Copy it or download text or Word; switch to Original for the English.

What does the Indonesian transcript look like?

Paragraphs of Bahasa Indonesia, each starting with the time it was said, ready to copy into a report or save as a Word document headed “Translated: English → Indonesian”. The English transcript keeps the same times, so any line can be traced back.

Indonesian ran about a tenth longer than English in our test, so expect the translated transcript to be a little longer than the original one.

Will the transcript use Anda or kamu?

Anda, the polite form, throughout our test: “Can you send me the report before Friday?” became “Bisakah Anda mengirimkan laporannya kepada saya sebelum hari Jumat?” That reads well in minutes and reports; for a chatty podcast quoted in a casual post, kamu may suit better.

How do fillers and casual English come out?

As Indonesian fillers rather than being dropped. “Well, you know, it’s kind of a big deal” became “Yah, Anda tahu, ini semacam masalah besar”, keeping yah and semacam (a kind of). Trim them when you want a clean quote.

What should you check in the Indonesian text?

Names, plurals and anything misheard. Names stayed as written, “The teachers” became “Para guru”, and dia covers he and she, so “Our doctor said she…” lost nothing. A word misheard in the English transcript is translated as misheard.

Our doctor said she would call back tomorrow.
IndonesianDokter kami bilang dia akan menelepon kembali besok.
The teachers were tired after the trip.
IndonesianPara guru merasa lelah setelah perjalanan tersebut.
Dr. Patel and Maria Lopez will lead the session.
IndonesianDr. Patel dan Maria Lopez akan memimpin sesi tersebut.

How well does English become Indonesian?

Well: in our test, translation from English into Indonesian scored clearly above the dedicated translation system we compared it with. Before you share it, check terms of art, the names of people and products, and any line where a speaker trailed off.

Do you record English conversations often?

NoteOwl transcribes English recordings and meetings on your Mac with unlimited transcription, labels each speaker and keeps everything searchable. For an English recording as English text only, use audio to text.

FAQ

Questions about translating English audio into Indonesian

Is the English to Indonesian audio translator free?

Yes: 3 recordings a day, the first 30 minutes of each, no account. The Indonesian, the English transcript and all downloads come with it.

Can I download the Indonesian as a Word document?

Yes. The Word file opens with the recording’s length, “Translated: English → Indonesian” and the date, followed by the Indonesian paragraphs with their times, which you can switch off.

Will it speak the Indonesian aloud?

No. You get written Indonesian as text, Word or subtitles, not an Indonesian voice track.

Does this page work for Malay too?

It writes Indonesian. For Malaysian Malay, with words such as mesyuarat and maklumat, use the English to Malay audio page instead.

Are speakers named in the transcript?

No. The Indonesian has words and times but no speaker names. NoteOwl on a Mac labels speakers in the English transcripts it makes.

Is my recording kept?

No. Your browser sends short slices of the sound to a cloud AI transcription service, then the English text to a cloud AI translation service, and each discards what it received. NoteOwl stores neither audio nor text.
