How it works

How do you translate English audio into Malay?

To translate English audio to Malay, add the recording to this page, which listens for English and writes Malay. The English is transcribed piece by piece and each line is put into Malay with its time. Read the Malay transcript, then copy it or download it.

  1. 1

    Choose the recording

MP3, M4A, WAV or OGG: a seminar, a client call, a lecture or a podcast episode.

  2. 2

    Transcribed and translated

English first, then Malay, for the first 30 minutes of each file.

  3. 3

    Save the Malay

Copy it, or download text or Word; the English sits under Original.

Is the transcript in Malaysian Malay or Indonesian?

Malaysian Malay. The translation chose Malaysian words: mesyuarat for a meeting, menelefon for phoning, maklumat for information, pembentang for a presenter, and spelled Friday “Jumaat”. For readers in Indonesia, the English to Indonesian page writes their words instead.

What will you have at the end?

A Malay transcript in paragraphs, each with its time, to paste into minutes or save as Word under the heading “Translated: English → Malay”. The English transcript has matching times, so a quote can be checked against what was said.

How does “you” come out in Malay?

As anda, in lower case: “Can you send me the report before Friday?” became “Bolehkah anda hantarkan laporan itu kepada saya sebelum Jumaat?”, and “Well, you know” became “Begini, anda tahu”. In a quote from a friendly chat, awak or kamu might sound more natural.

What should you check in the Malay transcript?

Plurals, names and misheard words. “The teachers” became “Guru-guru itu”, doubled as Malay does; the names kept their spelling; dia covers he and she, so “she” needed no choosing. A word misheard in English stays wrong in Malay.

The teachers were tired after the trip.
MalayGuru-guru itu keletihan selepas lawatan tersebut.
Our doctor said she would call back tomorrow.
MalayDoktor kami berkata dia akan menelefon semula esok.
Dr. Patel and Maria Lopez will lead the session.
MalayDr. Patel dan Maria Lopez akan mengetuai sesi tersebut.

How did English to Malay score in our test?

Above the dedicated translation system we compared it with. The Malay text also ran about a tenth longer than the English, so a translated transcript runs a little longer than its original.

Recording English meetings and calls?

NoteOwl on a Mac transcribes English with unlimited transcription, labels each speaker and keeps every conversation searchable. It doesn’t work in Malay. For an English recording as plain English text, use audio to text.

FAQ

Questions about translating English audio into Malay

Is the English to Malay audio translator free?

Yes. Translate 3 recordings a day, the first 30 minutes of each, without an account. The Malay, the English and every download are included.

Can I save the Malay as a Word file?

Yes. Download Word: it starts with the recording’s length, the date and “Translated: English → Malay”, then the Malay paragraphs with their times, which you can leave out.

What if some speakers switch to Malay?

This page hears every part as English. For a meeting that moves between English and Malay, as many in Malaysia do, use the main audio translator with the spoken language on Detect automatically.

Does it produce Malay audio?

No. The result is written Malay, as text, Word or subtitles; there is no Malay voice-over.

Will the transcript say who spoke?

No. The Malay comes with times but no speaker names. NoteOwl on a Mac names each speaker in the English transcripts it makes.

Is my recording uploaded?

Not as a file. Your browser reads it and sends short pieces of the sound to a cloud AI transcription service, then the English text to a cloud AI translation service; both throw away what they receive. NoteOwl keeps nothing.
