How it works

How do you translate an English recording into Latvian?

To translate English audio to Latvian, drop the file here; the page listens for English and writes Latvian. The speech is transcribed in short pieces, then each line is translated and keeps its time. Read the Latvian, compare a line with the English when needed, and save.

  1. 1

    Drop in the English recording

An interview, a webinar, a lecture or a voice message, as MP3, M4A, WAV or another audio file.

  2. 2

    English first, then Latvian

Transcribed in short pieces, then translated line by line. Up to 30 minutes of each recording.

  3. 3

    Keep the Latvian transcript

Copy it or save it as text or Word; switch to Original to read the English.

What does the Latvian transcript look like?

Latvian paragraphs, each with the time it was spoken, ready to copy or save. The Word file opens with the recording’s length, the line “Translated: English → Latvian” and the date, followed by the paragraphs.

The times make it practical for quoting and filing. When a Latvian sentence reads oddly, go to that moment in the recording and hear the English for yourself, or switch to the original transcript, which carries the same times.

Why do English names change in the Latvian?

Latvian adapts foreign names. “Dr. Patel and Maria Lopez” came back as “Dr. Patels un Marija Lopesa”, which is correct Latvian. When you quote someone or file the transcript under a name, take the spelling from the English transcript.

A name the English transcript misheard is carried into Latvian as misheard, with a Latvian ending on top, so the original transcript is the place to settle spellings.

Does the Latvian show whether someone is a man or a woman?

Where the English says so, yes. “Our doctor said she would call back tomorrow” became “Mūsu ārste teica, ka zvanīs atpakaļ rīt”, with the feminine ārste. Where English gives no clue, Latvian falls back on the masculine: “The teachers” became “Skolotāji”.

Is the Latvian formal or informal?

It shifts from line to line. A thank-you to a room became “Paldies visiem, ka atnācāt šodien”, rightly plural, while “you know” came back as the familiar “tu zini”. For a formal interview, read the transcript for tu forms that should be jūs.

In our test, translation from English into Latvian scored clearly above the dedicated translation system we compared it with, and Latvian came out about as long as the English it translated.

FAQ

Questions about English to Latvian audio translation

Is the English to Latvian audio translator free?

Yes. You can translate 3 recordings a day, up to 30 minutes each, without an account. The Latvian transcript, the English one and every download come with it.

Can I open the Latvian translation in Word?

Yes. The Word download starts with the recording’s name and length and the line “Translated: English → Latvian”, then gives the Latvian paragraphs, each with its time unless you turn times off.

Will I get spoken Latvian?

No. The result is Latvian text: a transcript, a Word file or subtitles. It doesn’t record a Latvian voice.

What if the speakers switch to Latvian partway?

This page treats all of the speech as English. For a recording that moves between English and Latvian, use the main audio translator and leave the spoken language on Detect automatically.

Does the transcript say who is speaking?

No. The web transcript has words and times but no speaker names. NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker in the transcripts it makes.

Is my recording uploaded?

No. It stays on your device; short pieces of its sound go to a cloud AI transcription service and the English text to a cloud AI translation service, and each discards what it received. NoteOwl keeps nothing.
