How it works
How do you translate a Hindi recording into English?
To translate Hindi audio to English, drop the recording on this page. It is transcribed in Hindi, a short piece at a time, then each line is translated into English and keeps its time. Read the English, and switch to the Devanagari transcript to check a line.

Add the Hindi recording
A family voice note, a vendor call, a lecture or an interview: MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG or AAC.

Transcribed in Devanagari, then translated. Up to 30 minutes of each recording.

Copy the English or save it as text or Word; Original shows the Hindi.
Why does the English sometimes say “they” for one person?
Because Hindi speaks of a respected person in the plural. In our test, “वे … हार गए थे”, said of one tennis player, came back as “They had recently lost”. When the English says “they”, the Hindi may mean one person spoken of politely.
The same respect is in आप, the polite “you”: English has only “you”, so how formally people addressed each other doesn’t show in the translation. The Hindi transcript, with the same times, keeps it.
How are names translated from Hindi?
By sound. Names written in Devanagari are spelled back into English as they sound, and sometimes wrongly: in our test Raonic came back as “Ronic” and Piquet Jr. as “Picket Junior”. Check every name against the recording before you quote it.
How well is spoken Hindi understood?
Well enough for the meaning to come through, though Hindi speech into English scored lower than most languages in our test. The transcript makes spelling slips in names and borrowed words, and a word misheard in Hindi is translated as heard.
Hindi puts the verb at the end of the sentence and English near the front. The transcript is translated in batches of neighbouring lines, so a sentence is read whole before it is put into English.
Can you share the English with someone else?
Yes. Copy it into a message, or download a Word file that opens with the recording’s length, “Translated: Hindi → English” and the date, then the English paragraphs with their times. Anyone checking a line can find it in the Hindi by its time.
Recording calls in Hindi or Hinglish?
NoteOwl understands Hindi on your Mac, writes it in Devanagari and keeps up when speakers switch to English mid-sentence. It transcribes with unlimited transcription, labels each speaker and keeps every conversation searchable. For Hindi text only, use Hindi audio to text.
FAQ
Questions about translating Hindi audio into English
Is the Hindi to English audio translator free?
Yes, for 3 recordings a day of up to 30 minutes each, with no account. The English, the Hindi transcript and every download are part of it.
Can I translate a Hindi voice note from WhatsApp?
Yes. Export the voice note from the chat as a file, usually OPUS or OGG, and drop it on this page. The English comes back with a time on each line.
What if the speakers mix Hindi and English?
This page transcribes all of the speech as Hindi first. For Hinglish, where speakers move between the two, try the main audio translator with the spoken language on Detect automatically.
Can I get the Hindi transcript as well?
Yes. Switch to Original to read the Hindi in Devanagari and save it as text or SRT. It has the same times as the English.
Does the English say who is speaking?
No. The English transcript has the words and times without speaker names. NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker in its transcripts.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. Your browser keeps the file and sends short pieces of the sound to a cloud AI transcription service, then the Hindi text to a cloud AI translation service. Each discards what it was sent; NoteOwl stores nothing.
