Azerbaijani subtitle generator

This Azerbaijani subtitle generator writes subtitles for a video spoken in Azerbaijani: the language is set to Azerbaijani, the subtitles use the Latin alphabet with ə, ı, ğ, ş and ç, and every one is timed to the speech, ready as SRT or VTT.

How it works

How do you make Azerbaijani subtitles for a video?

Bring the video to the page. Its sound is turned into Azerbaijani text, a short stretch at a time, and the words are laid into subtitles of one or two lines that start as they are spoken. Go through them, then save SRT or VTT.

  1. 1

    Bring a video

A vlog, a talk, a TV clip or an interview: MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM, or just the audio.

  2. 2

    Azerbaijani subtitles

The speech is written in Azerbaijani, for up to 30 minutes of the video.

  3. 3

    Save

SRT for YouTube or a video editor, VTT for a web player, or plain text.

What do Azerbaijani subtitles look like?

One or two lines of up to 42 characters, split after commas or between phrases. Azerbaijani builds long words from suffixes, so a line often holds four or five words, and a long sentence runs over two or three subtitles.

Our 40 Azerbaijani test sentences came out as 109 subtitles, most of them two lines of about 31 characters.

ə and ğ
The subtitleBölgələrin bəzilərində suyu bir / dəqiqə qaynatmaq yetərli olsa da,
A one-line sentence
The subtitleQrenlandiyada əhali seyrək yerləşib.
A foreign spelling
The subtitleYenə də, Schengen zonası bu baxımdan bir / qədər tək dövlət funksiyasına malikdir.

Do Azerbaijani letters display correctly in subtitles?

In the file, yes: ə, ı, İ, ğ, ş, ç, ö and ü are saved as UTF-8, and ə was the commonest of them in our test. To burn subtitles into the picture, pick a font with ə, a letter Azerbaijani has and Turkish lacks.

Watch ı and i: dırnaqları once came back as dirnaqları. Numbers and abbreviations keep their suffix after a hyphen, as in 2017-ci and ABŞ-ın.

Why set the subtitle language to Azerbaijani?

Azerbaijani and Turkish are similar enough for their speakers to understand each other in part, and share almost the same alphabet, so a guessed language can subtitle an Azerbaijani stretch in Turkish words and spelling. Set to Azerbaijani, every subtitle stays Azerbaijani.

For a video that switches between Azerbaijani and Russian or English for whole sentences, the main subtitle generator detects the language of each stretch instead.

What should you check in Azerbaijani subtitles?

Foreign names and quotation marks. Names are written by sound, so check each one against the audio, and add any quotation marks the speaker implied.

  • Foreign names

Glenn Cushing and Schengen came back in their original spelling, where Azerbaijani writes Qlen Kuşinq and Şengen.

  • Place names

Kowloon, in Hong Kong, came back as Koblon. Check every name with the video.

  • Quotes

Quotation marks were left out. Add them around quoted words and titles.

Is there a Mac app that subtitles recordings?

NoteOwl is one, for English and the other languages it understands; Azerbaijani isn’t among them. It transcribes recordings on your Mac with unlimited transcription and saves SRT subtitles naming every speaker. For Azerbaijani, use this page, or Azerbaijani audio to text for a transcript.

FAQ

Questions about Azerbaijani subtitles

Is the Azerbaijani subtitle generator free?

Yes. Subtitle 3 Azerbaijani videos a day, up to 30 minutes of each, with no account and no watermark.

Can it make English subtitles for an Azerbaijani video?

No. The subtitles are in the Azerbaijani that is spoken; nothing is translated. Translate the text of the SRT and keep its numbers and times unchanged.

Does it write Azerbaijani in Cyrillic?

No. The subtitles use the Latin alphabet Azerbaijan has used since 1992. For Cyrillic, convert the SRT text afterwards with a transliteration tool.

Where does my video go?

Nowhere; it stays on your device while the browser takes out its sound. Short pieces of the sound go over a secure connection to a cloud AI transcription service, which transcribes and discards each. NoteOwl keeps nothing.

How do I fix a word in the subtitles?

Open the SRT or VTT in a text editor, correct it and save as UTF-8 so ə and ı stay intact. Leave the numbers and times as they are.
