How it works

How do you make Macedonian subtitles for a video?

Add the video to the page. The browser takes out its sound, which is transcribed as Macedonian a short stretch at a time, and the Cyrillic text is cut into subtitles that appear with the speech. Check them, then save SRT or VTT.

  1. 1

    Add the video

A lecture, a news clip, a vlog or an interview: MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM, or its audio.

  2. 2

    Macedonian subtitles

Each stretch is written in Macedonian Cyrillic, through the first 30 minutes.

  3. 3

    Save the subtitles

SRT for YouTube and video editors, VTT for a web player, or plain text.

What do Macedonian subtitles look like?

One or two lines of Cyrillic, up to 42 characters each, broken after commas or between phrases. A new subtitle starts after a full stop, a comma or a pause; 37 of our 40 test sentences came back with their full stop.

Our 40 Macedonian test sentences made 91 subtitles, nearly nine in ten of them two lines long.

A full sentence
The subtitleМухамед бил многу заинтересиран / за работи надвор од овој земски живот.
A comma mid-way
The subtitleЕвропа е континент што е релативно / мал, но со многу независни држави.
A quote without „ “
The subtitleГласините ги нарекол / политички муабети и будалаштини

Which Macedonian letters need checking in the subtitles?

ќ, ѓ and џ, and any й. The Macedonian alphabet has no й and writes the dž sound with џ, yet a й turned up, as in Айро Смит for Аеросмит, and the ќ of сообраќај was lost.

  • ќ and ѓ

сообраќај came back as собраке. Look for к and г where ќ and ѓ belong.

  • й and дж

Search the SRT for й, which Macedonian doesn’t use, and for дж in names, where it writes џ: Џон, not Джон.

  • Bulgarian forms

Влажноста came back as Влажността, a Bulgarian-looking ending.

Why set the subtitle language to Macedonian?

Macedonian is close to Bulgarian and shares Cyrillic with it and with Serbian, so a guessed language can write a stretch in one of their spellings. Set to Macedonian, the subtitles stay in Macedonian Cyrillic, with only the few slips above.

For a video that switches into English for whole sentences, the main subtitle generator detects the language of each stretch instead.

Can a stretch of a Macedonian video end up without subtitles?

It can. In our test, a long quoted sentence came back as one word, “Переизјави”, so a few seconds of speech had a single short subtitle. Watch the preview for a long pause in the subtitles where someone was still talking, and type those lines in.

Two smaller things to search for: figures, since “двајца” and “дваесетмина” came back as 20 and 12, and Latin letters, since M16 came back with a Cyrillic М that looks the same but won’t match a search for the Latin one.

FAQ

Questions about Macedonian subtitles

Is the Macedonian subtitle generator free?

Yes: 3 Macedonian videos a day, each up to 30 minutes long, with no account and no watermark on the subtitles.

Can it make English subtitles for a Macedonian video?

No. The subtitles are in the Macedonian that is spoken; it doesn’t translate. Translate the SRT text for English, keeping every number and time line as it is.

Is my video uploaded?

No, it stays on your device; the browser takes out its sound there. Short pieces of the sound go over a secure connection to a cloud AI transcription service, which transcribes and discards each one. NoteOwl keeps nothing.

Will the Cyrillic display correctly?

The SRT and VTT are saved as UTF-8, so ј, њ, ќ and ѓ are stored intact. When you burn subtitles into the picture, pick a font that has the Macedonian letters.

How do I correct a subtitle?

Open the SRT or VTT in a text editor, fix the word, and save as UTF-8. Leave the numbers, the times and the blank lines between subtitles alone.
