Tagalog subtitle generator

This Tagalog subtitle generator writes subtitles for a video spoken in Tagalog or Filipino: the language is set to Tagalog, English words in Taglish keep their English spelling, and the subtitles download as SRT or VTT, timed to the speaker.

How it works

How do you make Tagalog subtitles for a video?

Drop the video here. The sound is transcribed as Tagalog a short piece at a time, then laid out as subtitles of one or two lines that come in with the speech. Read through them and download SRT or VTT.

  1. 1

    Add a video

A vlog, a homily, a class or an interview: MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM, or just the audio.

  2. 2

    Tagalog subtitles

Each piece is written as Tagalog, through the first 30 minutes of the video.

  3. 3

    Download

SRT for YouTube and video editors, VTT for a web player, or plain text.

How are Tagalog subtitles laid out?

In one or two lines of up to 42 characters. The generator prefers not to end a line on a short word such as ng, sa or mga, which belongs with the next word, though Tagalog has so many that some lines still do.

Our 40 test sentences became 106 subtitles; 14 of their 89 two-line subtitles had a top line ending on such a word. Move it down a line in the SRT if you prefer.

A full sentence
Its two linesAng Finland ay napakagandang / destinasyon para sa pagbabangka.
Hyphenated words
Its two linesAng lupain ng libo-libong lawa / ay mayroon ding libo-libong
English terms inside
Its two linesAng mga atom ng hydrogen ay binubuo lamang / ng isang proton na hiwalay sa elektron

How does Taglish look in the subtitles?

English words said inside Tagalog sentences come back in English spelling, so one subtitle can hold both languages, as with hydrogen and proton above. A Tagalog prefix on an English verb keeps its hyphen, as in mag-apply.

Why set the subtitle language to Tagalog?

So the Tagalog parts are always subtitled as Tagalog. Left to guess, the generator can take a short Tagalog phrase for another language and write that block of subtitles in it. Set to Tagalog, only the English words themselves stay English.

For a video that switches to English for whole sentences or minutes, use the main subtitle generator, which finds the language of each stretch and subtitles English parts in English.

What should you check in Tagalog subtitles?

Numbers and names. Most sentences came back close to what was said, with their full stops, but figures and proper names were where the slips were.

  • Years

A war in 1967 came back as 1667. Check every year against the video.

  • Numbers in words

70 came back as the word pitungpo. Use digits if the rest of your subtitles do.

  • Names

Raju Khandelwal came back as Siraju Candelwal, and Sahel as “Sa Hel”.

Can a Mac app make subtitles from your other recordings?

For English and the other languages it understands, yes; Tagalog isn’t among them. NoteOwl transcribes recordings on your Mac with unlimited transcription and saves SRT subtitles that name each speaker. Use this page for Tagalog, and Tagalog audio to text for a transcript.

FAQ

Questions about Tagalog subtitles

Is the Tagalog subtitle generator free?

Yes. Subtitle 3 videos a day, up to 30 minutes of each, with no account and no watermark. SRT, VTT and text are all included.

Does it work for Filipino?

Yes. Filipino is the standardised form of Tagalog, and this page writes it in modern Filipino spelling, English loanwords included.

Can it make English subtitles for a Tagalog video?

No, it writes the Tagalog that is spoken and doesn’t translate. Translate the SRT’s text into English and keep each subtitle’s number and times.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Your browser opens it on your device and takes out its sound; short pieces of the sound go over a secure connection to a cloud AI transcription service, which transcribes each and discards it. NoteOwl stores nothing.

Can I fix the subtitles myself?

Yes. Open the SRT or VTT in a text editor, correct the words and save as UTF-8. Leave the numbers, times and blank lines between subtitles alone.
