How it works

How do you turn English subtitles into Bosnian?

Drop your SRT or VTT on the translator; Bosnian is set under Into. The subtitles’ text is translated a few dozen at a time, so each sentence is read with its neighbours, and the Bosnian is put back into the original timings. Then download it.

  1. 1

    Drop in the file

An English SRT or VTT, or one in another language from the list; the language is detected for you.

  2. 2

    Translate to Bosnian

Only the text changes. Subtitle numbers and timecodes are copied across untouched.

  3. 3

    Download

Bosnian SRT or VTT, named like Epizoda.bs.srt, or a bilingual SRT with both languages.

Which words mark the subtitles as Bosnian?

The month names and a few word forms. Our test wrote “16. oktobra 2026.”, “nevjerovatno” for amazing and “doktorka” for a woman doctor, where the Croatian target wrote listopada, nevjerojatno and liječnik. All of it came back in Latin letters.

Viewers in Bosnia and Herzegovina will find it natural, and neighbours across the region read it without effort. If your audience is in Croatia, the Croatian target writes Croatian month names and forms instead.

Will viewers be addressed politely?

Yes. Every test line used vi, and the respectful capital V appeared where Bosnian writing uses it: “Molim Vas, sjednite, gospodine.” “Can you send me the report?” became “Možete li mi poslati izvještaj prije petka?”. For a relaxed channel, switch the verbs to ti.

Does the Bosnian keep the gender English implies?

In our test it did. “Our doctor said she would call back” became “Naša doktorka je rekla”: a feminine noun and a feminine verb. A group of men and women takes the masculine plural, as Bosnian grammar does: “Učitelji su bili umorni nakon izleta.”

English often gives a gender only through “she” or “he” several subtitles later. Because neighbouring subtitles are translated together, the Bosnian can carry it back; where it can’t, scan the file for the past-tense endings (rekao, rekla).

Do Bosnian subtitles take more room than English?

Hardly. Bosnian translations ran about as long as the English in our test, so subtitles rarely crowd. Each keeps its time and is laid out again in at most 2 lines aiming for 42 characters, breaking between words and avoiding a lone “i” or “u” at a line’s end.

FAQ

Bosnian subtitle translation: questions

Does it cost anything to translate subtitles to Bosnian?

No. 3 files a day, each with up to 30,000 characters of subtitle text; no account and no watermark.

Bosnian, Croatian or Serbian: which does it write?

Bosnian, in Latin letters: oktobar for October, nevjerovatno for amazing, doktorka for a woman doctor. Choose Croatian under Into for Croatian forms. Serbian isn’t one of the languages it translates into.

How good is translation into Bosnian?

In our test of 50 sentences, English into Bosnian scored clearly above the dedicated translation system we compared it with. The things still worth a glance are ti or vi for your audience, and names.

Will the timing change?

No. Every subtitle keeps its number and its start and end time from your file; only the words become Bosnian.

Can I show the original and the Bosnian together?

Yes, with the bilingual SRT: each subtitle holds the original line above the Bosnian one. It suits someone learning Bosnian, or a reviewer comparing the two.

What happens to my subtitle file?

Your browser reads it and sends only the subtitle text, in batches, to a cloud AI translation service, which returns the Bosnian and discards the text. NoteOwl doesn’t store your file or the translation.
