How it works

How do you make Hebrew subtitles from an existing SRT?

Drop your SRT or VTT here; Hebrew is set as the target. Press Translate. The subtitle text is translated in small batches, laid out again in right-to-left lines and put back under the original numbers and times. Look it over, then download.

  1. 1

    Drop the subtitle file

English, Russian, French or another language on the From list; English is picked up by itself.

  2. 2

    Translate into Hebrew

Consecutive subtitles travel together, so a sentence cut across two is still translated as a whole.

  3. 3

    Save the Hebrew

SRT or VTT, or a bilingual SRT with your original line above the Hebrew.

Will Hebrew subtitles display right to left?

Yes. Each Hebrew line starts with an invisible right-to-left mark, so a player that lays lines out left to right still puts the question mark and the full stop on the side where Hebrew readers expect them.

In the bilingual SRT, your original line keeps its own direction and the Hebrew lines below it carry the mark, so an English line and its Hebrew translation can share one subtitle without either being flipped.

Does the Hebrew address a man or a woman?

A man, unless the line says otherwise. Hebrew has no neutral singular “you”, and our test used the masculine: “האם תוכל לשלוח לי את הדוח?” and “אתה יודע”. Speaking to a woman, change it to תוכלי; to a group, to תוכלו. “Thank you all” correctly became plural.

How do numbers, dates and names look in Hebrew subtitles?

Numbers keep the decimal point, a prefix such as ב joins a number with a maqaf (ב־16), and times use the 24-hour clock. Names are written in Hebrew letters, so Dr. Patel became ד״ר פטל. No vowel points are added.

Do Hebrew subtitles take less room than English?

Usually. Hebrew ran about a quarter shorter than English in our test translations, so most subtitles have space to spare. Each keeps its start and end time and is laid out in up to 2 lines of about 42 characters, never split inside a word.

In our test, translation into Hebrew from English was level with the dedicated translation system we compared it with. Read the commands in your file before publishing: “Please sit down, sir” came back with the wrong form of the verb.

Do you record conversations in Hebrew?

Hebrew is among the languages NoteOwl understands on your Mac: it transcribes recordings with unlimited transcription, labels each speaker and saves SRT subtitles with their names. For subtitles from Hebrew speech in a video, try the Hebrew subtitle generator.

FAQ

Hebrew subtitle translation: questions

Can I translate subtitles to Hebrew for free?

Yes. Translate 3 subtitle files a day into Hebrew, up to 30,000 characters of text in each, with no account and nothing added to your subtitles.

Which languages can be translated into Hebrew?

English and the other languages on the From list, such as Russian, French, Spanish and German. Pick the language under From, or leave it on Detect automatically.

Are the subtitles written with niqqud?

No. The Hebrew is written without vowel points, the way Hebrew subtitles and everyday Hebrew text usually are.

Will the Hebrew stay in sync with the video?

Yes. Each Hebrew subtitle keeps the number and the start and end times of the one it translates, and the file has the same number of subtitles as yours.

Can I show English and Hebrew on screen together?

Yes. Download the bilingual SRT: the original line sits on top and the Hebrew below it in each subtitle, each language reading in its own direction. It helps learners and anyone checking the translation.

Is my subtitle file sent anywhere?

The file stays in your browser. Only its subtitle text is sent, in batches, to a cloud AI translation service, which returns Hebrew and discards what it received. NoteOwl stores neither file.
