How it works
How do you translate subtitles into Galician?
Open the SRT or VTT on this page, already set to Galician. Groups of neighbouring subtitles are translated together and written back into the original timecodes, so nothing drifts. Look over the galego, then save the file.
- 1
Open your subtitles
An .srt or .vtt in English, Spanish, Portuguese or another listed language.
- 2
Translate into Galician
The wording changes; the numbering and timestamps are copied as they are.
- 3
Save
Galician SRT or VTT, or a bilingual SRT with the original line kept above.
Will the Galician use ti or vostede?
Ti for everyday lines, vostede where the English is formal. In our test, “Can you send me the report…?” became “Podes enviarme o informe…?” and “you know” became “xa sabes”, while “Please sit down, sir” turned into “Por favor, sentese, señor”.
What should you check in Galician subtitles?
Titles, times and exclamations. The test made Dr. Patel a woman (“A Dra. Patel”), kept the 12-hour “ás 3:30 p.m.”, which you may prefer as 15:30, and turned a plain “Wow!” into a much stronger exclamation. Read interjections before you publish.
How do numbers look in Galician subtitles?
With a decimal comma and a dot between thousands: “6,5 por cento” and “1.250$” in our test, the dollar sign after the number with no space. Change the spacing if your style guide writes “1.250 $”.

Do Galician subtitles take more room than English?
Slightly: Galician ran a little longer than English in our test. Each subtitle keeps its time and stays within two lines, breaking between phrases and steering clear of ending a line on a one-letter word such as “e”, “o” or “a”.
Lines aim for 42 characters, the usual size for subtitles. A translation that runs long gets two fuller lines; it never pushes into the next subtitle or changes its times.
How well does English translate into Galician?
In our test, translation from English into Galician scored above the dedicated translation system we compared it with. The Galician wrote ñ, x and its own words (viaxe, hoxe, mañá), and kept the woman in “A nosa médica”.
Recording in Spanish, Portuguese or English?

FAQ
Questions about Galician subtitle translation
Is translating subtitles to Galician free?
Yes, for 3 files a day, each with up to 30,000 characters of subtitle text. No account, no watermark.
Can I translate Spanish or Portuguese subtitles into Galician?
Yes. Set the From language to Spanish or Portuguese, or let the page detect it, and the subtitles come back in Galician at the same times.
Will the subtitles stay in time with the video?
Yes. Your file’s numbers and start and end times are reused exactly, so each Galician line appears when the original did.
Can I show the original and the Galician together?
Yes. The bilingual SRT puts the original line above the Galician in every subtitle, which suits language classes and anyone checking the translation.
What about italics and speaker names?
Italics wrapped around a whole subtitle are kept, and so is a speaker’s “Name:” at the start of a line. VTT positions and CSS styling don’t come across.
Does NoteOwl keep my subtitles?
No. The browser opens the file and sends only its text, batch by batch, to a cloud AI translation service, which translates it and forgets it. NoteOwl stores neither the original nor the Galician.
