How it works

How do you translate English subtitles into Russian?

Drop the English SRT or VTT here; Russian is already chosen as the target. The text of the subtitles is translated in batches of neighbouring lines, then each Russian line is set back at the original times. Look it over and download the Russian file.

  1. 1

    Drop the file

An .srt or .vtt in English or another language on the From list; the language is detected for you.

  2. 2

    Get Russian

Lines that belong to one sentence are translated together, so the Russian keeps its grammar across two subtitles.

  3. 3

    Download

Russian SRT or VTT, or a bilingual SRT with the original above each Russian line.

Does Russian take more space on screen than English?

A little, on average: in our test, Russian ran slightly longer than the English it translated. Line by line it varies, and a subtitle’s time never changes, so a longer translation simply fills its two lines.

Lines aim for 42 characters and break between words. A subtitle never gains a third line or splits in two, so the file keeps exactly as many subtitles as you gave it.

The price went up by / 6.5 percent to $1,250.
Russian subtitleЦена выросла на 6,5 процента / и составила 1250 долларов.
The meeting is on October / 16, 2026, at 3:30 p.m.
Russian subtitleВстреча назначена на 16 / октября 2026 года в 15:30.

Will names be spelled in Cyrillic?

Yes. “Dr. Patel and Maria Lopez” became “Д-р Патель и Мария Лопес”, the way Russian subtitles normally write people’s names, with the title shortened to “Д-р”. If you want a brand or a name left in Latin letters, change it in the downloaded file.

Will the Russian use вы or ты?

Вы, throughout. Even casual English came back polite: “Well, you know” became “Ну, знаете”, and “Can you send me…?” became “Можете прислать…?”. That suits most audiences; for a video among friends, change the вы forms to ты where they sound stiff.

Which Russian details should you check?

Gender, ё and numbers. “Our doctor said she…” became “Наш врач сказала”: the noun stays masculine and the verb shows a woman, as Russian speakers say it. The translation writes ё (“отчёт”, “серьёзно”), and prices take Russian form, “6,5 процента”, “1250 долларов”.

  • Mixed groups

“The teachers were tired” became “Учителя были уставшими”, the plural that covers men and women.

  • Dates and times

“16 октября 2026 года в 15:30”: day before month, and the 24-hour clock.

  • “Sir”

“Please sit down, sir” became “Садитесь, пожалуйста, сэр”. In some videos you may prefer to drop “сэр”.

How good is the Russian translation?

Good. In our test of fifty English sentences, translation into Russian scored above the dedicated translation system we used as a yardstick, and every batch is checked to be in Cyrillic before it is used. Read names and figures before you publish.

FAQ

Russian subtitle translation: questions

Is translating subtitles into Russian free?

Yes. 3 subtitle files a day, each up to 30,000 characters of text, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Can I translate Ukrainian or Polish subtitles into Russian?

Yes. Set From to the file’s language, or leave Detect automatically on. The text goes directly into Russian; English isn’t used as a stepping stone.

Will the Russian subtitles stay in sync?

Yes. Start and end times are copied from your file to the millisecond, and every subtitle keeps its number, so the Russian plays exactly where the original did.

Can I show the original and the Russian together?

Yes. The bilingual SRT puts the original line above the Russian one in each subtitle, which helps people learning Russian or checking a translation.

What if a speaker’s name is written before a line?

A name such as “Anna:” at the start of a subtitle is kept in front of the Russian line and not translated, so the speakers stay labelled.

Is my file uploaded?

Your browser opens it. Only the subtitle text is sent, in batches, over a secure connection to a cloud AI translation service, which returns the Russian and discards the text. NoteOwl stores neither file.
