How it works

How do you put Malay subtitles on an English video?

To translate an English video to Malay, drop the video here. Its sound is transcribed in English, translated into Malay line by line, and the Malay is timed to where the English is spoken. Download the Malay SRT or VTT and add it beside the video.

  1. 1

    Add the English video

An MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM file. The picture stays on your device; only the sound is used.

  2. 2

    Malay subtitles are made

The English is transcribed and translated, through the first 30 minutes of the video.

  3. 3

    Download

Malay SRT or VTT; switch to Original for English subtitles on the same timing.

Do Malay subtitles use a decimal point or a comma?

A decimal point, as Malaysia writes it. In our test, “6.5 percent to $1,250” came out as “6.5 peratus kepada $1,250”, and 3:30 p.m. as “jam 3:30 petang”: the 12-hour clock, with petang for the afternoon.

The price went up by 6.5 percent to $1,250.

Thank you all for coming today.
Malay subtitleTerima kasih semua kerana hadir hari ini.

How much space do Malay subtitles take?

A little more than English: Malay ran about a tenth longer in our test. The Malay is cut into subtitles after translating, 2 lines at most of about 42 characters, each shown long enough to read and starting when the English words are spoken.

So a Malay track may hold a few more subtitles than the English one for the same speech. Doubled words such as kanak-kanak or guru-guru stay whole on one line.

How do the subtitles speak to Malaysian viewers?

Politely. “Please sit down, sir” became “Sila duduk, tuan”, and “you” became anda. Exclamations got Malay ones: “Wow! That’s amazing!” became “Wah! Itu sangat menakjubkan!”. For a relaxed vlog, change anda to kamu where it suits your voice.

Where can I use the Malay subtitles?

Anywhere that takes SRT or VTT: upload the SRT in YouTube Studio under Subtitles with Malay as the language, or load it in a video editor or player. Publishing the English track too lets viewers choose.

How did English to Malay subtitles do in our test?

The translation into Malay scored above the dedicated translation system we compared it with. On screen, check brand names and English terms your viewers already use, which may read better left in English than translated.

Making English videos for Malaysian viewers?

NoteOwl understands English and Chinese on your Mac, though not Malay: it imports MP4 video, transcribes it with unlimited transcription and saves SRT subtitles with speaker names. Have English subtitles already? Translate them into Malay with their timing intact.

FAQ

Questions about Malay subtitles for English videos

Is the English to Malay video translator free?

Yes. Up to 3 videos a day and 30 minutes of each, no account, no watermark. Malay SRT and VTT and the English subtitles are all yours to download.

Will it dub my video into Malay?

No. It writes Malay subtitles and doesn’t touch the video or its sound. Upload the SRT next to the video, or burn it in with an editor.

Are the subtitles Malaysian Malay or Indonesian?

Malaysian Malay: mesyuarat for a meeting, peratus for percent, Jumaat for Friday. For Indonesian viewers, the English to Indonesian video page writes Indonesian.

Can I publish the English subtitles too?

Yes. Switch the result to Original and download the English SRT with the same timing, then add both tracks to your video.

Is my video sent anywhere?

Only its sound, in short pieces, to a cloud AI transcription service, and then the English text to a cloud AI translation service. Each discards what it gets, the picture stays on your device, and NoteOwl stores nothing.

Are speaker names added to the subtitles?

No. The subtitles hold only what was said.
