How it works
How do you add Italian subtitles to an English video?
To translate an English video to Italian, drop the file here. The browser takes out the sound, the English is transcribed and translated, and the Italian is cut into subtitles at the moments the words are said. Download the SRT and add it to your video.

Will Italian subtitles fit on the screen?
Yes. Italian runs about a tenth longer than English, so the translation is set out as subtitles in its own right: at most 2 lines of up to 42 characters, each shown long enough to read at about 17 characters a second.
Because the Italian is cut into subtitles after it is translated, its subtitles needn’t pair off one for one with the English ones. Each still starts when the English words it translates are spoken, and none runs past the line limit.
How do prices, dates and times appear in Italian subtitles?
In Italian form. “6.5 percent to $1,250” became “6,5 percento a $1.250”: decimal comma, thousands dot, the dollar sign left in front. A meeting “at 3:30 p.m.” moved to the 24-hour clock (“alle 15:30”), and the date reads “16 ottobre 2026”.
- The price went up by 6.5 percent to $1,250.
- Italian subtitleIl prezzo è aumentato del 6,5 percento a $1.250.
- The meeting is on October 16, 2026, at 3:30 p.m.
- Italian subtitleLa riunione è il 16 ottobre 2026 alle 15:30.

| The meeting is on October 16, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. | La riunione è il 16 ottobre 2026 alle 15:30. |
How does the Italian speak to an audience?
As an Italian speaker would to a group: “Thank you all for coming today” became “Grazie a tutti per essere venuti oggi”, with the masculine plural “venuti” that covers a mixed audience. “Wow! That’s amazing!” came out as “Wow! È fantastico!”.
Do names and titles change in Italian subtitles?
Names stay as the English transcript spelled them; titles follow Italian style. “Dr. Patel and Maria Lopez will lead the session” became “Il dott. Patel e Maria Lopez condurranno la sessione”, with “dott.” and the article Italian puts before a title.
Groups of people take the masculine plural unless English says otherwise: “The teachers were tired after the trip” became “Gli insegnanti erano stanchi dopo il viaggio”.
Making videos for English and Italian viewers?
NoteOwl understands Italian and English on your Mac: it imports MP4 videos, transcribes them with unlimited transcription and saves SRT subtitles naming each speaker. If your video already has English subtitles, the subtitle translator keeps their timing exactly.
FAQ
Italian subtitles for English videos: questions
Is the English to Italian video translator free?
Yes. 3 videos a day, each up to 30 minutes, with no account and nothing stamped on the result. Italian SRT and VTT and the English subtitles are all included.
Does it add an Italian voice?
No. You get Italian subtitles, not dubbing, and your video file is left exactly as it was. Upload the SRT alongside the video or burn it in with an editor.
Which players and sites take the Italian SRT?
YouTube, Vimeo, most video editors and players such as VLC accept SRT. Course platforms and web players often prefer VTT, which you can download too.
Should Italian viewers be addressed with tu or Lei?
Our test used tu for a casual question to one person and Lei with “sir”. Most online videos speak informally; a company or training video may want Lei, so read the subtitles with your audience in mind.
How good is the Italian?
In our test of translation from English, Italian scored above the dedicated translation system we compared it with. Gender, tu or Lei, and names are what to look over before you publish.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The browser separates the sound on your device and sends short pieces to a cloud AI transcription service; the English text then goes to a cloud AI translation service. Both discard what they get, and the picture never leaves.
