How it works
How do you subtitle a French video in Spanish?
To translate a French video to Spanish, drop it here: the page is set to hear French and write Spanish. Every transcribed line is translated, and the Spanish is laid out as subtitles on the French timing. Download the Spanish SRT, or check a line against the French first.
- 1
Add the French video
A lecture, a vlog, an interview or a product demo, as MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM.
- 2
French becomes Spanish
Transcribed as French, translated into Spanish, up to 30 minutes of each video.
- 3
Take the Spanish file
SRT for most players and YouTube, VTT for web players. The French subtitles download from Original.
Does the Spanish read naturally?
In our test it came close to a human translation. “L’attentat a mis à rude épreuve les relations entre l’Inde et le Pakistan” became “El atentado puso a prueba las relaciones entre la India y Pakistán”: plain Spanish, not French word for word.
Will the Spanish subtitles be longer than the French?
Slightly shorter, if anything: ten French test sentences came to 1,008 characters, their Spanish to 983. Each Spanish subtitle holds up to 2 lines of 42 characters and stays up long enough to read at 17 characters a second.
Because the Spanish is laid out after translation, it breaks where Spanish phrases end: “A las 8:46 exactamente, / un silencio cayó sobre la ciudad,” was one two-line subtitle in our layout.
What happens to French times and measurements?
Times switch to the Spanish form: “À 8 h 46 exactement” became “A las 8:46 exactamente”. Units keep the order the speaker used, so “165 km/h (105 miles par heure)” stayed kilometres first: “165 km/h (105 millas por hora)”.
Is the Spanish for Spain or for Latin America?
Neutral Spanish that reads well in both. Some words follow the French: “le groupe” became “el grupo”, where a Latin American subtitler might write “la banda”. For a channel aimed at one country, search the SRT for such words.
The Spanish route opens questions and exclamations with ¿ and ¡, as it did in our other tests into Spanish, so they look right on screen.
Publishing in French and Spanish?
NoteOwl understands French and Spanish on a Mac: import your MP4 videos and it transcribes them with unlimited transcription, names each speaker and saves SRT subtitles. Already have French subtitles? Translate them into Spanish with their timing kept.
FAQ
Questions about Spanish subtitles for French videos
Is the French to Spanish video translator free?
Yes. 3 videos a day, up to 30 minutes each, without an account or a watermark. Spanish SRT and VTT, the French subtitles and the text are all included.
What if the video mixes French and Spanish?
This page treats all the speech as French. For a video that switches language, use the main video translator and leave the spoken language on Detect automatically.
Do I get the French subtitles too?
Yes. Switch the result to Original to see and download the French. It covers the same speech, which makes it easy to check any Spanish line against what was said.
Can the Spanish be burned into the picture?
Not on this page: it never changes your video. Download the Spanish SRT and burn it in with a video editor, or upload it as a subtitle track viewers can switch on.
Does anything from the video get stored?
No. The browser extracts the sound on your device; short pieces go to a cloud AI transcription service, and the French text to a cloud AI translation service, which both discard it. The picture never leaves your computer.
