How it works

How do you add English subtitles to a Galician video?

To translate a Galician video to English, drop it on this page. Its Galician speech is transcribed and translated line by line, and the English is cut into subtitles timed to the speech. Download the SRT or VTT and publish it, or watch with it.

  1. 1

    Add the Galician video

MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM: a documentary, a lecture, a festival clip or a vlog. Only the sound is read.

  2. 2

    English subtitles are timed

Galician is transcribed and translated, for the first 30 minutes of the video.

  3. 3

    Download

English SRT or VTT; switch to Original for Galician subtitles on the same timing.

How good are English subtitles from Galician speech?

Good: Galician speech came out good in English in our test, with sentences that read as ordinary English subtitles. The odd phrase stays close to the Galician: “Fred presenta ventos” became “Fred presents winds” rather than “Fred has winds”.

O ataque puxo unha forte presión nas relacións entre India e Paquistán.
English subtitleThe attack put strong pressure on relations between India and Pakistan.
Nestes momento, Fred presenta ventos de 165 km/h (105 millas)…
English subtitleAt this moment, Fred presents winds of 165 km/h (105 miles)…
O brasileiro sufriu unha lesión cerebral grave…
English subtitleThe Brazilian suffered a serious brain injury…

Are units and figures changed for English viewers?

Not in our test: they followed the speaker. When the Galician gave kilometres first, “165 km/h (105 millas)”, the English kept that order. If your viewers expect miles first, swap them in the SRT; the timing doesn’t change.

Do the English subtitles read comfortably?

Yes. They are laid out after translating, so each subtitle is a whole English phrase: at most 2 lines of about 42 characters, shown for 1 to 7 seconds and paced at 17 characters a second.

What should you check before sharing?

Names and rarer words, where Galician transcription slips most: a place called Plitvice came back as “Plitzbich” in our transcription test, and a misheard word is translated as misheard. Watching once with the subtitles on is the quickest way to catch them.

Making videos in Spanish, Portuguese or English as well?

NoteOwl understands Spanish, Portuguese and English on your Mac, though not Galician: it imports MP4 video, transcribes it with unlimited transcription and saves SRT subtitles with speaker names. For Galician subtitles of Galician speech, use the Galician subtitle generator.

FAQ

Questions about English subtitles for Galician videos

Is the Galician to English video translator free?

Yes. 3 videos a day, up to 30 minutes each, with no account and no watermark; English and Galician subtitles both download.

Does it dub the video into English?

No. It writes English subtitles; the video and its Galician sound stay as they were.

Can I publish Galician and English subtitles together?

Yes. Download the English, switch to Original for the Galician, and upload both as separate tracks so each viewer picks one.

What if the speakers switch to Spanish?

This page hears the whole video as Galician. For a video that moves between Galician and Spanish, use the main video translator with Detect automatically.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Your browser takes out the sound; short pieces of it go to a cloud AI transcription service and the Galician text to a cloud AI translation service, which discard them. The picture never leaves your device.

Are speaker names shown?

No. The subtitles contain only what was said.
