How it works

How do you get Spanish subtitles for a German video?

Drop the German video on this page. The German speech is transcribed, each line is put into Spanish, and the Spanish is laid out as subtitles on the German timing. Download the SRT: that is how to translate a German video to Spanish without typing a word.

  1. 1

    Drop the German video

    A tutorial, a keynote, a vlog: MP4, MOV, M4V, MKV, 3GP or WebM.

  2. 2

    German to Spanish

Transcribed as German and translated line by line, up to 30 minutes of each video.

  3. 3

    Save the Spanish file

SRT or VTT; under Original, the German subtitles with the same timing.

Does German speech come through well?

Yes. In our language test, German recordings were transcribed very cleanly, and the Spanish subtitles are translated from that transcript. Clear sound helps most: one speaker at a time and little music under the voice.

What happens to German word order in Spanish subtitles?

It becomes Spanish order. “Der Angriff strapazierte die Beziehungen zwischen Indien und Pakistan sehr” became “El ataque tensó mucho las relaciones entre la India y Pakistán”: the “sehr” at the end moved up beside the verb, where Spanish wants it.

Each translated line covers the same moments as the German line it came from, so the meaning arrives in Spanish order while the subtitles stay in time with the speaker.

Will the Spanish fit on screen?

Yes. Ten German test sentences came to 1,018 characters and their Spanish to 1,001. A longer sentence simply takes two subtitles: one of our test lines ran to 117 characters in Spanish, more than 2 lines of 42 hold, and was laid out in two.

What is worth checking in the Spanish?

German habits that slip through. German treats the Brisbane Open as plural, and the Spanish kept it: “en los Brisbane Open”, where Spanish says “el”. Numbers stayed as digits too: “15 dieser Felsen” became “15 de estas rocas”, not “quince”.

FAQ

Questions about Spanish subtitles for German videos

Is the German to Spanish video translator free?

Yes: 3 videos a day, up to 30 minutes each, no account. The Spanish subtitles, the German ones and the text all download free.

Can I get subtitles in another language from the same German video?

Yes. The spoken language stays German on this page, but the Translate into menu offers the other languages. Choose one before you drop the video in.

Will the German subtitles be there too?

Yes. Switch the result to Original for the German subtitles, built from the same speech, and download them as SRT or VTT.

Does it dub the German into Spanish?

No. You get Spanish subtitles, not a Spanish voice, and your video file is not changed.

Where does my video go?

The file stays on your computer. The browser takes the sound out on your device, sends short pieces to a cloud AI transcription service and the German text to a cloud AI translation service, which discard it. The picture never leaves your computer.
