How it works

How do you get English subtitles for a Hebrew video?

To translate a Hebrew video to English, drop it here. The Hebrew speech is transcribed in short pieces, translated, and set down as English subtitles at the moments each line is spoken. Read them on the page, then download the English SRT.

  1. 1

    Drop the Hebrew video

A lecture, a news clip, a family celebration or an interview: MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM.

  2. 2

    Hebrew speech, English subtitles

Transcribed as Hebrew and translated, for videos up to 30 minutes.

  3. 3

    Download one or both

English SRT or VTT, and the Hebrew subtitles from Original.

How well is Hebrew speech understood?

Well: Hebrew speech into English rated good in our test. The weak spot is names and borrowed words, which the Hebrew transcript is likeliest to misspell, and which the English then has to guess, since Hebrew writes them without vowels.

What should you check in the English subtitles?

Names above all. In our speech test, the Hebrew transcript had “מרטלי” right, yet the English subtitle read “Martel” instead of Martelly. Play the video at each name, correct the spelling in the SRT, and the rest of the file can stay as it is.

How are English subtitles laid out for a Hebrew video?

By English rules. The translation is cut into subtitles of up to 2 lines, about 42 characters each, reading left to right and timed to the Hebrew speech, so they needn’t line up one for one with the Hebrew subtitles.

Each one stays on screen long enough to read at 17 characters a second, and never longer than 7 seconds.

Can you publish the Hebrew subtitles too?

Yes. The Original view holds Hebrew subtitles of the same video, written without vowel points and with a right-to-left mark on every line. Upload them beside the English, and Hebrew speakers and everyone else each get a track they can read.

The Hebrew transcript spells out some abbreviations: ארה"ב, for the United States, came back as “ארצות הברית”.

Producing Hebrew videos often?

Hebrew is among the languages NoteOwl understands on a Mac. Import an MP4, let unlimited transcription write it out, and save SRT subtitles with each speaker named. For Hebrew subtitles without translation, try the Hebrew subtitle generator.

FAQ

Questions about English subtitles for Hebrew videos

Is the Hebrew to English video translator free?

Yes. It subtitles 3 videos a day in English, each up to 30 minutes, with no account and no watermark; the Hebrew subtitles are included.

Does it add English audio?

No. It makes English subtitles; the video keeps its Hebrew sound and isn’t modified.

Can I put the English subtitles on YouTube?

Yes. In YouTube Studio, open Subtitles for the video, add English and upload the SRT with timing; viewers can then switch English subtitles on.

What if the speakers switch between Hebrew and English?

This page hears all of it as Hebrew. For a video that mixes languages, use the main video translator with the spoken language on Detect automatically.

Are speakers named in the subtitles?

No. The subtitles hold only what was said. NoteOwl on a Mac saves SRT subtitles with each speaker’s name.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The browser extracts the sound on your computer; short clips of it go to a cloud AI transcription service and the Hebrew text to a cloud AI translation service, and both discard what they get. The picture is never sent.
