How it works

How do you add English subtitles to a Malay video?

To translate a Malay video to English, drop the video here. Its Malay speech is transcribed, each line is translated into English, and the English is laid out as subtitles on the timing of the speech. Download the SRT to watch with it or publish it.

  1. 1

    Drop the video in

An MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM with Malay speech. The picture never leaves your device.

  2. 2

    English subtitles are made

Malay is transcribed and translated, through the first 30 minutes of the video.

  3. 3

    Download

English SRT or VTT; Original gives Malay subtitles on the same timing.

How good are English subtitles from Malay speech?

Strong. Malay was transcribed cleanly in our test, and its speech came out strong in English. Sentences crossed over naturally: “Serangan itu menegangkan hubungan antara India dan Pakistan” became “The attack strained relations between India and Pakistan”.

Tepat pada pukul 8:46 pagi, bandar tersebut hening dengan tiba-tiba…
English subtitleAt exactly 8:46 a.m., the city fell silent suddenly…
Pemandu dari Brazil itu mengalami kecederaan kepala serius…
English subtitleThe driver from Brazil suffered serious head injuries…
Syarikat berharap untuk meluaskan sumber keuntungan…
English subtitleThe company hopes to expand its revenue sources…

How do Malay times appear in English subtitles?

In English style: “pukul 8:46 pagi”, with pagi for the morning, became “8:46 a.m.”. Since a.m. and p.m. come from words such as pagi and petang, check any time that matters against the video.

Are the English subtitles easy to read on screen?

They are laid out for reading: at most 2 lines of about 42 characters, each on screen for 1 to 7 seconds and paced at 17 characters a second. The English is cut into subtitles after translating, so each one reads as a whole English phrase.

What about English words inside the Malay?

They usually pass straight through. Malay speech often borrows English, and the transcript tends to keep those words in English spelling (mood, T-shirt) before translating. Check names and brands on screen, since a misheard word stays misheard.

Can I publish both Malay and English subtitles?

Yes. Download the English, then switch to Original for the Malay, and upload both to YouTube Studio as separate subtitle tracks, so Malaysian and international viewers each choose their own.

Making videos in English or Chinese too?

NoteOwl understands English and Chinese on your Mac, though not Malay: it imports MP4 video, transcribes it with unlimited transcription and saves SRT subtitles with speaker names. For Malay subtitles of Malay speech, use the Malay subtitle generator.

FAQ

Questions about English subtitles for Malay videos

Is the Malay to English video translator free?

Yes. 3 videos a day, the first 30 minutes of each, with no account and no watermark; English and Malay subtitles are both included.

Will it dub the Malay into English?

No. It writes English subtitles; the video and its Malay sound stay exactly as they were.

Does it work for Indonesian videos?

Use the Indonesian to English video page for those: it transcribes with Indonesian spelling before translating.

What if the video switches between Malay and English?

This page hears it all as Malay. For a video that changes language often, use the main video translator with Detect automatically.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Your browser takes the sound out of the video; short pieces of it go to a cloud AI transcription service and the Malay text to a cloud AI translation service, each discarding what it was sent. The picture is never sent.

Are speaker names included?

No. The subtitles show the words only.
