How it works
How do you get English subtitles for a Vietnamese video?
To translate a Vietnamese video to English, drop it on this page. Your browser takes out the sound; the Vietnamese is transcribed, translated into English and timed as subtitles within the moments each line was spoken. Save the English SRT for your player or your channel.
- 1
Open the Vietnamese video
A family video, a cooking channel, a lecture or an interview, as MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM.
- 2
English subtitles are timed
Transcribed, translated and laid out, for up to 30 minutes of each video.
- 3
Download .en.srt or VTT
The Original switch has the Vietnamese subtitles at the same moments.
Are English subtitles shorter than the Vietnamese?
Slightly: Vietnamese runs a little longer than English. Both use lines of up to 42 characters, and the English stays on screen long enough to read at 17 a second. It is laid out after translation, so the two sets of subtitles needn’t match one for one.
Are the English subtitles reliable for Vietnamese speech?
For the meaning, yes, though our test of whole recordings put Vietnamese below most languages once turned into English. Many lines were exact, such as “Professor Pamela Ferguson of the University of Dundee”. The slips we saw were mostly names and unusual terms that the transcript wrote by sound.
In one clip, the name T. rex was heard as ordinary Vietnamese words, “tí bếp”, and the English subtitle translated those words instead of naming the dinosaur. A line like that stands out in its scene and is quick to fix against the Vietnamese subtitle at the same moment.
Does missing punctuation in the Vietnamese affect the subtitles?
Not the English ones. The Vietnamese transcript can lack full stops (11 of our 40 test clips had no punctuation at all), but the English translation writes its own, and its subtitles are cut at English sentence ends and pauses.
If you also publish the Vietnamese subtitles from Original, read them for full stops and for capitals that appear mid-sentence where the speaker paused.
What happens to event names and measurements?
They come back in their usual English form. “giải đua Grand Prix Hungaria” became “the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix”, and “105 dặm/giờ (165 km/h)” came back as “105 miles per hour (165 km/h)”, both units kept as given.
- Tay đua người Brazil bị một vết thương nặng ở đầu sau khi bị tai nạn trong giải đua Grand Prix Hungaria năm 2009.
- EnglishThe Brazilian driver suffered a severe head injury after an accident in the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix.
- Fred hiện có sức gió 105 dặm/giờ (165 km/h) và đang di chuyển theo hướng tây bắc.
- EnglishFred currently has a wind speed of 105 miles per hour (165 km/h) and is moving northwest.

FAQ
English subtitles for Vietnamese videos: questions
Is the Vietnamese to English video translator free?
Yes. 3 videos a day, up to 30 minutes each, without an account or watermark. English and Vietnamese subtitle files are both included.
Can I watch the video with the English subtitles?
Yes. Load the .en.srt in your video player’s subtitle menu, or give it the video’s name and keep the two together so the player finds it.
Does it work with northern and southern speech?
The page doesn’t ask for a region; Vietnamese from anywhere goes through the same setting. For a heavily accented speaker, run a short clip before a long video.
Will the video be dubbed in English?
No. The page writes English subtitles and leaves the video unchanged.
Are speakers named in the subtitles?
No, the subtitles carry the words only. NoteOwl on a Mac writes each speaker’s name into the SRT files it saves.
Is the video uploaded?
No. Your browser keeps the video; only brief stretches of the soundtrack go out for transcription, and then the Vietnamese lines for translation, each to a cloud AI service that deletes them after replying. The picture never leaves.
