Vietnamese to English audio translator
This Vietnamese to English audio translator writes down a recording in Vietnamese and translates it line by line, so a call home, an interview or a lecture can be read in English, with the time of each paragraph and the Vietnamese transcript beside it.

How it works
How do you translate a Vietnamese recording into English?
To translate Vietnamese audio to English, drop the recording on this page; it listens for Vietnamese. The speech is transcribed with its tone marks, then translated into English a batch of lines at a time, each line keeping its time. Read the English and save it.
- 1
Add the Vietnamese recording
A voice message from family, a supplier call, an interview or a class, as MP3, M4A, WAV or OGG.
- 2
Vietnamese, then English
Transcribed in Vietnamese, then translated, up to 30 minutes of each recording.

Copy or download
Paste the English anywhere, or save TXT or Word with the times.
How well does Vietnamese speech come through in English?
The meaning comes through, though in our test of whole recordings Vietnamese scored lower in English than most languages. The weak spots were foreign names, which the transcript writes by sound: Governor Cuomo became “Kumho, 53, began serving as governor”.
The rugby team the Springboks came out as “Spring Book” in both the transcript and the English. Names you know are worth correcting before you share the text.
What happens when a tone mark is missed?
A missed or wrong tone mark makes a different word, and the translation has to work around it. In our test, chuỗi (“a streak”) was transcribed as chui, yet the English still read “a streak of five consecutive losses”: the sentence around it carried the meaning.
That is why the transcript goes to the translation in batches of neighbouring lines rather than word by word. When a line still reads oddly, the time beside it takes you to the moment in the recording.
What does English lose from Vietnamese pronouns?
Age and closeness. Vietnamese “anh ấy” is a man about the speaker’s age, “ông ấy” an older one, “em” someone younger; English says “he” or “you” for all of them. “Gần đây anh ấy đã thua Raonic” became “Recently he lost to Raonic”.
- Gần đây anh ấy đã thua Raonic ở giải Brisbane Mở rộng
- English translationRecently he lost to Raonic at the Brisbane Open.
- Piquet Jr. bị sa thải sau cuộc đua Grand Prix Hungary năm 2009.
- English translationPiquet Jr. was fired after the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix race.

FAQ
Vietnamese recordings in English: questions
Is the Vietnamese to English audio translator free?
Yes. 3 recordings a day, each up to 30 minutes, with no account. The English transcript, the Vietnamese one and all downloads are included.
Does it matter whether the speaker is from the north or the south?
The page has one Vietnamese setting for every region. With a strong regional accent, try a short clip first and look over the tone marks in the transcript before a long recording.
Can I read the Vietnamese transcript too?
Yes. Set Show to Original: the Vietnamese appears with the same times as the English, and saves as text or SRT.
What if the speakers switch to English?
This page writes everything as Vietnamese first. For a recording that moves between the two languages, the main audio translator with Detect automatically keeps each part in its own language.
Will it tell me who is speaking?
No. The English has the words and times without names; NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker in its own transcripts.
Is my recording sent anywhere?
The file stays with you. Your browser sends short pieces of its sound to a cloud AI transcription service and the Vietnamese text to a cloud AI translation service, which discard them after answering; NoteOwl keeps nothing.
