Translate subtitles to Greek
This page lets you translate subtitles to Greek: add an SRT or VTT file, and every subtitle is rewritten in Greek letters while keeping its number and its exact start and end time, so the Greek file plays in step with the video.

How it works
How do you turn an SRT file into Greek?
Add the SRT or VTT; Greek is fixed as the language to translate into. Press Translate and the subtitle text is sent in small groups of neighbouring lines, translated, and put back under the original numbers and times. Skim the Greek, then download it.

Greek is written in
Subtitles are translated with their neighbours, so a sentence spread over two still reads as one.

Do Greek subtitles take more room than English ones?
A little. Greek ran about a tenth longer than English in our test. A subtitle’s time can’t stretch, so a longer Greek line is laid out again in two fuller lines instead, never a third line and never an extra subtitle.
Lines aim for about 42 characters and break between words. If a Greek subtitle feels too full for its moment on screen, a shorter wording is the fix; the timing is already right.
Will the Greek subtitles use εσύ or εσείς?
Mostly εσείς: “Can you send me…?” became “Μπορείτε…;” and “you know” became “ξέρετε”. One test line slipped: “Please sit down, sir” came back with the familiar “Παρακαλώ κάθισε, κύριε”. In a formal video, change such lines to the polite “καθίστε”.
How do numbers, dates and questions look in Greek?
Numbers take a decimal comma and a full stop for thousands, dates read day, month, year, and questions end with the Greek question mark, which looks like a semicolon. Times came back on the 12-hour clock with μ.μ.; write 15:30 if your viewers expect the 24-hour clock.

What should you check in Greek subtitles?
Gender, articles and names. In our test, translation into Greek scored just under the dedicated translation system we compared it with, within the margin we set. “Our doctor said she…” became the masculine “Ο γιατρός μας”, so a woman doctor needs “Η γιατρός”.
Look at the small words too: “before Friday” came back as “πριν από τις Παρασκευή”, where Greek wants “την Παρασκευή”. Names stay in Latin letters and take a Greek article, as in “Ο Δρ. Patel και η Maria Lopez”.

FAQ
Questions about Greek subtitle translation
Is translating subtitles to Greek free?
Yes. 3 subtitle files a day go into Greek free, each with up to 30,000 characters of text, with no account and no watermark.
What languages can I translate into Greek from?
English, and any other language in the From list, such as German, Italian or Bulgarian. Leave it on Detect automatically and the page recognises the file’s language.
Will Greek subtitles stay in sync with my video?
Yes. Every subtitle keeps its original number, start time and end time, so the Greek file lines up with the video just as the original did.
Why does a Greek question end with a semicolon?
It isn’t a semicolon: the Greek question mark has the same shape. The translation writes Greek questions that way, as Greek readers expect, so leave it as it is.
Can I show English and Greek at the same time?
Yes. The bilingual SRT holds the original line with the Greek line under it in each subtitle. It suits people learning Greek and anyone checking the translation.
Is my subtitle file stored?
No. Your browser opens it, and only the subtitle text is sent in batches to a cloud AI translation service, which translates it and discards it. NoteOwl keeps neither file.
