Greek subtitle generator
This Greek subtitle generator writes υπότιτλοι for a video spoken in Greek: every tonos and final ς in place, elisions such as γι' αυτό kept, two lines at most with the longer one below, each subtitle timed to the speaker, as SRT or VTT.

How it works
How do you make Greek subtitles for a video?
Drop the video on the page. Its sound is transcribed in Greek a short stretch at a time, and the words become numbered υπότιτλοι that appear as they are spoken. Check them in the preview, then download SRT or VTT.
- 1
Choose a video
A διάλεξη, a vlog, an interview or a presentation, as a video file or just its audio.
- 2
Read the υπότιτλοι
Every subtitle shows its number, start, end and lines. The first 30 minutes of a video are subtitled.
- 3
Download
SRT for YouTube or a video editor, VTT for a website player.
Why set the subtitles to Greek?
So that every subtitle comes back in the Greek alphabet. When the language is guessed, a short or unclear stretch can be taken for another language, and a subtitle in the wrong one confuses viewers. Set to Greek, the whole video is subtitled in Greek, accents included.
For a video where speakers switch to English for whole passages, the main subtitle generator does better, because it decides the language of each passage itself.
Which line is longer in a Greek subtitle?
Usually the bottom one. When a subtitle needs two lines, the generator prefers a top line no longer than the bottom, the pyramid shape Netflix’s Greek guide asks for in subtitles at the bottom of the screen. In our test, 71 of 97 two-line subtitles were shaped that way.

Should names in Greek subtitles be in Greek letters?
In professional work, yes: Netflix’s Greek guide asks for proper names to be transliterated into Greek letters. Our test kept foreign names as spoken, in Latin letters, such as “Blue Ash του Ohio” and “Formula 1”, so transliterate them in the file if your style requires it.
Elided words came through with their apostrophe, as in “Παρ' όλα αυτά” and “Κατ' αναλογία”, and a title in chevrons, «Η ομιλία του Προέδρου», kept its marks on one line.
What should you check in Greek subtitles?
Questions and abbreviations. Greek marks a question with ; rather than ?, and our test had no questions, so make sure yours end with the Greek mark. Abbreviations such as “π.Χ.” stay inside their sentence: in our test “τον 3ο αιώνα π.Χ. είναι” ran on in one subtitle.
Merge such a pair in a text editor if you prefer whole sentences. Two speakers in one subtitle take a hyphen without a space in Netflix’s Greek guide (“-Θα μας λείψετε.” / “-Γεια.”); the web generator writes no speaker marks.
Greek subtitles with speaker names, made on a Mac?
NoteOwl understands Greek on your Mac: it transcribes Greek recordings there with unlimited transcription, distinguishes the speakers and saves SRT subtitles with their names, using on-device AI models. For a Greek transcript rather than subtitles, use Greek audio to text.
FAQ
Greek υπότιτλοι: questions
Is the Greek subtitle generator free?
Yes. Up to 3 Greek videos a day can be subtitled, 30 minutes of each, with no account and no watermark; SRT, VTT and text are all included.
Can it make Greek subtitles for an English video?
No. It writes down Greek speech and doesn’t translate. Subtitle an English video in English first, translate each subtitle’s text into Greek and keep its number and times.
Do Greek subtitles get shorter lines than English ones?
No. Greek letters count one each, like Latin ones, so a line holds up to 42 characters and a subtitle stays up for about 17 characters a second, the same limits Netflix’s Greek guide sets.
Will the accents survive in my video editor?
Yes, if the file stays in UTF-8, the encoding it is saved in. After editing, save it as UTF-8 again so that tonos accents and final ς display correctly.
Is my video uploaded to NoteOwl?
No. The video is opened in your browser and stays on your device. Short pieces of its sound go securely to a cloud AI transcription service that transcribes and discards each one, and NoteOwl stores nothing.
