What does NoteOwl’s Romanian transcript look like?

Here’s a sample recording, and NoteOwl’s transcript of it, unedited. On this sample NoteOwl matched 97.5% of the characters (punctuation and spacing aside).

The recording · 0:49

A short work call between Ioana and Andrei. NoteOwl detected the language by itself.

  1. Foarte bine! Câte produse luam cu noi? M-am gândit la vreo două sute de bucăți. Mai ales cercei și brățări, că se vând cel mai bine. Sunt de acord

In English: Very good! How many products are we taking with us? I was thinking about two hundred pieces. Mostly earrings and bracelets, since they sell best. I agree.

  2. și anul acesta acceptăm plata cu cardul? Eu zic că da. Anul trecut am pierdut câțiva clienți pentru că acceptam doar numerari. Bine, atunci

In English: And this year, are we accepting card payments? I say yes. Last year we lost a few customers because we only took cash. Okay, then

  3. luăm un terminal de plată. Te ocup tu de asta până joi? Da, mă ocup eu. Vorbesc mâine cu banca și îl comand. Perfect. Eu

In English: we’ll get a card terminal. Will you take care of that by Thursday? Yes, I’ll handle it. I’ll talk to the bank tomorrow and order it. Perfect. I’ll

  4. pregătesc etichetele cu prețuri și decorul standului. Mulțumesc Andrei! Cu plăcere, ne auzim joi atunci

In English: prepare the price tags and the decorations for the stall. Thanks, Andrei! You’re welcome, talk on Thursday then.

Does NoteOwl write Romanian diacritics correctly?

Yes, in the sample. It wrote ă, â, î, ș and ț throughout, as in brățări, prețuri, mâine and plăcere, and used the comma-below ș and ț that standard Romanian calls for, not the cedilla look-alikes ş and ţ that older keyboards produce.

That matters when you search or spell-check, because ș and ş are different characters to a computer. It missed a breve twice, writing stam for stăm and luam for luăm, then got luăm right a few sentences later.

What did NoteOwl get wrong in the Romanian sample?

The opening line was the weakest: “Salut, Andrei! Cum stăm cu standul” came out as “Saluta Andrei! Kum stam custandul”, meșteșuguri was split into mește suguri, and lângă became lândă. Overall, 97.5% of characters matched.

After that the misses were small: numerari for numerar and “Te ocup tu” for “Te ocupi tu”. Numbers stayed as words throughout, as in două sute de bucăți (two hundred pieces) and trei metri (three metres).

Is there a Romanian setting to choose?

No. NoteOwl tells Romanian apart by listening. Settings → Auto-Context has a Spoken language menu for pinning English, Hindi, Spanish, French or German; with Romanian, keep it on Auto-detect.

If your Mac runs in English, that menu opens on English, and NoteOwl then decodes Romanian dictation and meetings as English speech. Switch it once. Imported files are always detected automatically, so the sample on this page never touched that setting.

How do I keep Romanian names and terms right?

Add a Pro vocabulary rule, for example custandul → cu standul. Rules look for whole words, with ă, î, ș and ț counted as letters, and write your replacement exactly as you typed it, diacritics included.

Romanian adds the definite article to the end of a word, so stand and standul are different words to a rule. If a product or client name comes out wrong in both forms, add both.

Where is Romanian transcription useful?

Romanian is spoken by about 24 million people in Romania and Moldova, and by big communities in Italy, Spain and the UK. People record client and supplier calls, team meetings in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca or Iași, interviews, and small-business planning like the crafts fair in the sample.

Is Romanian speech to text free in NoteOwl?

Yes, for dictation. Speaking Romanian into any app is free and unlimited, forever, like voice notes. Meetings, imported recordings, summaries, Chat and custom vocabulary are part of NoteOwl Pro.

NoteOwl Pro is $79 once for one Mac, with a 7-day free trial in the app and no card. Everything runs on your Mac, with the same on-device AI models on both plans.

FAQ

Questions about Romanian transcription

Is Romanian dictation free?

Yes, with no ceiling. Tap fn in any app, speak Romanian, tap fn again, and the words, diacritics included, type at your cursor; voice notes are free too. Pro costs $79 once for one Mac and adds meetings, imports, summaries, chat and memory; the in-app 7-day trial needs no card.

Does Romanian transcription work offline?

Yes. Speech is turned into text on the Mac, so with the models downloaded you can disconnect. The first Auto-detect dictation and first import may download one more model part, so do those while online.

Does NoteOwl detect Romanian automatically?

For imports, every time. For dictation and meetings, when Spoken language reads Auto-detect; if it reads English, change it.

Can I import a recording in Romanian?

Yes, with Pro or the trial. Click Import Recording in Transcripts or drag in audio or video: m4a, mp3, wav or mp4. NoteOwl identifies Romanian, transcribes it locally with ș and ț, and marks who spoke.

Does NoteOwl work for Romanian meetings?

Yes, with Pro. The call is recorded from your Mac’s microphone and sound output, so nobody has to let a bot in. Afterwards there is a Romanian transcript by speaker, a summary and a list of action items.

How accurate is NoteOwl in Romanian?

97.5% of characters matched in the sample, not counting punctuation or spaces, and most slips came in the greeting. Try your own calls during the trial.

About NoteOwl

NoteOwl is private AI meeting notes and memory for the Mac. It captures meetings without a bot joining the call, labels every speaker, writes summaries and action items, and builds a memory of every conversation that you can chat with — fully offline, because the speech recognition and the AI run on the Mac itself. Dictation into any app is free; Pro is a one-time purchase.
