What does NoteOwl’s Slovak transcript look like?

Here’s a sample recording, and NoteOwl’s transcript of it, unedited. On this sample NoteOwl matched 94.2% of the characters (punctuation and spacing aside).

The recording · 0:46

A short work call between Zuzana and Tomáš. NoteOwl detected the language by itself.

  1. Ahoj Tomáš, ako to vyzerá z ňom otvorených dverí? Ahoj, zatiaľ sa prihlásilo osemdesiat ľudí, čo je viac ako sme čakali. To je skvälé.

In English: Hi, Tomáš, how are things looking with the open day? Hi, so far eighty people have signed up, which is more than we expected. That’s great.

  2. Stíňeme pre všetkých prehľadku firmy

In English: Can we manage a tour of the company for everyone?

Lines copied from NoteOwl’s transcript exactly as it wrote them, mistakes included. The English beside each line is our translation for readers, not NoteOwl output.

How does NoteOwl write Slovak?

In Slovak spelling with its diacritics: ľ in zatiaľ and ľudí, á in Tomáš and vyzerá, í in dverí, and ô in pôjdu later in the call. Numbers came out as words, osemdesiat ľudí (eighty people) and štyri skupiny (four groups).

Two of the three questions kept their question marks; “Stihneme pre všetkých prehliadku firmy?” lost its own. NoteOwl also produced ä, though in the wrong word: skvelé (great) came out as skvälé.

What did NoteOwl get wrong in the Slovak sample?

Short words, mostly: 94.2% of characters matched. It joined and split prepositions and pronouns, writing Dostredy for do stredy, Jazabezpečím for ja zabezpečím and na raz for naraz, and it turned s dňom into z ňom.

Other misses were sound-alikes: Stíňeme for Stihneme, prehľadku for prehliadku, menouky for menovky, and the closing “Tak si zavoláme” became “Taxi zavoláme”. When you check a Slovak transcript, read the small words first.

Does NoteOwl need to be set to Slovak?

No, it recognises Slovak by listening. Settings → Auto-Context → Spoken language can only pin English, Hindi, Spanish, French or German, so for Slovak that menu should say Auto-detect.

On a Mac running in English it starts out on English, and NoteOwl then decodes Slovak dictation and calls as if they were English. Change it once and forget it. Imports ignore the menu and are always detected automatically.

How do I fix repeated mistakes in Slovak transcripts?

On Pro, put them in your vocabulary, for example menouky → menovky. Matching is by whole word, and letters such as ľ, ť and ô count as part of the word, so a rule for a short word never fires inside a longer one.

Rules are exact replacements, so they suit names and terms that come out wrong the same way each time. Joined or split prepositions vary from sentence to sentence; check those by eye.

Where is Slovak transcription useful?

Slovak is the official language of Slovakia and one of the EU’s, spoken by about 5 million people. Typical recordings are team meetings, supplier calls and company events like the open day in the sample, whether the office is in Bratislava, Košice or Žilina.

Is Slovak speech to text free in NoteOwl?

Yes, for dictation. Speaking Slovak into any app is free and unlimited, forever, like voice notes. Meetings, imported recordings, summaries, Chat and custom vocabulary are part of NoteOwl Pro.

NoteOwl Pro is $79 once for one Mac, with a 7-day free trial in the app and no card. Everything runs on your Mac, with the same on-device AI models on both plans.

FAQ

Questions about Slovak transcription

Is Slovak dictation free?

Yes, as much as you like. Tap fn, say it in Slovak, tap fn again, and the text types into the app you are using; voice notes are included. Pro is one $79 payment for one Mac and adds meetings, imports, summaries, chat and memory; the 7-day trial in the app takes no card.

Does Slovak transcription work without internet?

Yes. NoteOwl transcribes Slovak on the Mac, so once the models are there you can work offline. Do your first Auto-detect dictation and first import while online, since either may download another piece of the model.

Does NoteOwl detect Slovak by itself?

Imported files, always. Dictation and meetings, when Spoken language says Auto-detect; if it says English, switch it.

Can I import a Slovak recording?

Yes, with Pro or the trial. Choose Import Recording in Transcripts or drag in audio or video (m4a, mp3, wav, mp4). NoteOwl spots that it is Slovak, writes the transcript with ľ, ô and the rest, and separates the speakers.

Does it work for meetings in Slovak?

Yes, with Pro. Recording happens on your Mac, from your microphone and the call’s audio, so no bot appears in the participant list. After the call: a Slovak transcript by speaker, a summary and action items.

How accurate is NoteOwl in Slovak?

On this page’s sample, 94.2% of characters, leaving out punctuation and spaces. Most errors were short words, so check a Slovak transcript before sending minutes, and test it on your own calls during the trial.

About NoteOwl

NoteOwl is private AI meeting notes and memory for the Mac. It captures meetings without a bot joining the call, labels every speaker, writes summaries and action items, and builds a memory of every conversation that you can chat with — fully offline, because the speech recognition and the AI run on the Mac itself. Dictation into any app is free; Pro is a one-time purchase.
