What does NoteOwl’s Ukrainian transcript look like?

Here’s a sample recording, and NoteOwl’s transcript of it, unedited. On this sample NoteOwl matched 97.3% of the characters (punctuation and spacing aside).

The recording · 0:47

A short work call between Оксана and Андрій. NoteOwl detected the language by itself.

  1. старі речі перенесаємо на інший день. Згоден так буде спокійніше. Я до п'ятниці складу список образів і надішлю його фотографу.

In English: …and move the older items to another day. Agreed, that’ll be less stressful. By Friday I’ll put together the list of looks and send it to the photographer.

  2. Гаразд. А я домовлюся з моделями і підтверджу час. Ще питання, хто відповідає за одяг на знімальному майданчику? Я візьму це на

In English: Great. And I’ll arrange things with the models and confirm the time. Another question: who’s responsible for the clothes on set? I’ll take that

  3. себе. Добре, здається, все обговорили. Дякую Андрію. Дякую до зв'язку

In English: on. Okay, I think we’ve covered everything. Thanks, Andriy. Thanks, talk soon.

Lines copied from NoteOwl’s transcript exactly as it wrote them, mistakes included. The English beside each line is our translation for readers, not NoteOwl output.

How does NoteOwl write Ukrainian?

In Ukrainian Cyrillic, with і, ї and є, and with a plain typewriter apostrophe (') in words like п'ятниці and зв'язку. Numbers in the sample stayed as words: з десятої до шостої (from ten to six) and близько тридцяти (about thirty).

If your documents use the typographic apostrophe (’ or ʼ), one find-and-replace after export brings a transcript into line. Commas were mostly in place, though “Згоден, так буде спокійніше” lost the one after Згоден.

What did NoteOwl get wrong in the Ukrainian sample?

Most misses came in the first line, before it settled: забруневав for забронював (booked), Андрею for Андрію, фотосессии for фотосесії and С десятої for З десятої. Later it wrote перенесаємо for перенесемо. Overall, 97.3% of characters matched.

The name shows it best. At the start of the call the vocative came out as Андрею; by the goodbye, NoteOwl wrote Андрію, the correct form. In this sample, the opening line needed the most correction.

Is there a Ukrainian setting to turn on?

No. Ukrainian is recognised from what NoteOwl hears. The Spoken language menu under Settings → Auto-Context pins only English, Hindi, Spanish, French or German, so for Ukrainian it should sit on Auto-detect.

Watch for one case: on a Mac whose system language is English the menu begins on English, and dictation and meeting audio are then read with Latin letters only, so і, ї and є have no way to appear. Imported files bypass the menu and are always auto-detected.

How can I keep Ukrainian names and terms correct?

On Pro, write a vocabulary rule: the spelling NoteOwl produced and the spelling you want, for example забруневав → забронював. It fires on whole Cyrillic words only, and your replacement is inserted exactly as typed, apostrophe included.

Ukrainian names take the vocative when someone is addressed, so Андрій becomes Андрію in “Дякую, Андрію”. A rule sees each ending as a separate word; cover the forms that come out wrong.

Where is Ukrainian transcription useful?

Ukrainian is the state language of Ukraine, used daily at work in Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa and Dnipro and by large communities in Poland, Germany, Canada and the US. People record client calls, interviews, stand-ups and production planning such as the photo shoot in the sample.

Is Ukrainian speech to text free in NoteOwl?

Yes, for dictation. Speaking Ukrainian into any app is free and unlimited, forever, like voice notes. Meetings, imported recordings, summaries, Chat and custom vocabulary are part of NoteOwl Pro.

NoteOwl Pro is $79 once for one Mac, with a 7-day free trial in the app and no card. Everything runs on your Mac, with the same on-device AI models on both plans.

FAQ

Questions about Ukrainian transcription

Is Ukrainian dictation free?

Yes, and there is no monthly cap. Tap fn, speak Ukrainian, tap again, and the text lands wherever your cursor is; voice notes cost nothing either. A one-off $79 for one Mac adds meetings, imports, summaries, chat and memory, and the 7-day in-app trial asks for no card.

Does NoteOwl transcribe Ukrainian offline?

Yes. With the models downloaded, Ukrainian speech becomes text on the Mac itself, Wi-Fi on or off. Your first Auto-detect dictation and first import can fetch an extra model part, so run each once with a connection.

Does NoteOwl detect Ukrainian automatically?

Imports: always. Dictation and calls: yes, provided Spoken language reads Auto-detect. If it reads English, change it, or no Cyrillic will come out.

Can I import a Ukrainian recording?

Yes, on Pro or during the free trial. Click Import Recording in Transcripts or drop the file in, whether it is m4a, mp3, wav or an mp4 video. You get a Ukrainian transcript with the speakers told apart, made locally.

Can NoteOwl take notes in a Ukrainian meeting?

Yes, with Pro. Because it listens through your microphone and your Mac’s own audio, no bot has to join the call. When it ends, NoteOwl writes the Ukrainian transcript speaker by speaker, then a summary with action items.

How accurate is Ukrainian speech recognition in NoteOwl?

97.3% of characters matched in this page’s sample, with punctuation and spaces set aside, and most errors sat in the opening line. Test your own audio while the trial runs.

About NoteOwl

NoteOwl is private AI meeting notes and memory for the Mac. It captures meetings without a bot joining the call, labels every speaker, writes summaries and action items, and builds a memory of every conversation that you can chat with — fully offline, because the speech recognition and the AI run on the Mac itself. Dictation into any app is free; Pro is a one-time purchase.
