How it works

How do you transcribe Croatian audio?

Choose the recording here. It is split at pauses into short pieces, each piece is transcribed as Croatian, and paragraphs appear with their start times while you wait. Then copy the Croatian transcript or download it in the format you need.

  1. 1

    Pick a file

A WhatsApp or Viber voice message, a recorded predavanje, an MP3 interview or a video file.

  2. 2

    Watch the Croatian text appear

Paragraphs arrive with their times. Every file is transcribed up to 30 minutes.

  3. 3

    Download

TXT, Word, or SRT and VTT subtitles.

Does it write č, ć, đ and ijekavian spelling?

Yes. Our Croatian test transcript used č, ć, đ, š and ž throughout, in words such as “noći”, “između” and “određenim”, and kept ijekavian forms like “lijek” and “svjesni”. Once it stretched je into ije: “cijepivo” for “cjepivo”.

It punctuated every sentence, but „…“ quotation marks never appeared, so add them where you quote someone.

Will Serbian or Bosnian words slip into the transcript?

Occasionally. Croatian, Serbian and Bosnian share most of their words, and in our test three came back in a non-Croatian form: “uticati” for “utjecati”, “svako” for “svatko” and “tsunami” for “cunami”. Search for those pairs before publishing.

Fixing the page to Croatian keeps the rest of the transcript in Croatian spelling; when the language has to be guessed, a short piece is easy to label as a neighbour. For a recording that switches language for long stretches, use the main audio to text converter.

How are dates, years and numbers written?

The Croatian way: years and ordinals take a full stop, months keep their Croatian names, and decimals use a comma. Counts said in words usually became digits.

August 2011
In the transcript“u kolovozu 2011.”
Fiscal year 2005
In the transcript“fiskalne 2005. godine”
“u trećem stoljeću”
In the transcript“u 3. stoljeću”
“sedamnaest osoba”
In the transcript“17 osoba”
Magnitude six point five
In the transcript“magnitude 6,5”

What should you proofread in a Croatian transcript?

Consonant clusters and short words. In our test “zlostavljanje” lost its l twice (“zostavljanje”), “strpljenje” became “stopljenje”, and “nije” became “dije”, so read sentences where a negation matters.

  • Names

Nyiragongo came out as “najgoto” and Curry as “Kari”.

  • Abbreviations

“UN-a” was written “Uena”; check every acronym with its case ending.

  • Word breaks

“uvod u to” turned into “vodu to”; replay any sentence that reads oddly.

Does it understand Kajkavian and Chakavian speech?

The page treats everything as Croatian and our tests used the standard, read aloud. Kajkavian around Zagreb and Chakavian on the coast and islands use different words and forms, so try a short clip of your speakers first.

FAQ

Questions about Croatian audio to text

Is the Croatian converter free?

Yes. The free allowance is 3 Croatian recordings a day, each transcribed up to 30 minutes, without an account. All download formats are included.

Can I use it for Bosnian or Serbian recordings?

This page writes everything as Croatian, in ijekavian Croatian spelling. For a recording in Bosnian or Serbian, use the main converter instead, which detects the language of each piece by itself.

Is my recording stored?

No. Short pieces of its sound are sent over a secure connection to a cloud AI transcription service, which transcribes and discards them. NoteOwl keeps neither the audio nor the text.

Can I make Croatian subtitles?

Yes. Download SRT or VTT once the transcript is done; every subtitle has a start and end time and keeps č, ć and đ.

How accurate is the Croatian transcript?

A clear recording comes back almost word for word. Watch for Serbian or Bosnian word forms, a dropped l or r inside a word, and names.
