What does NoteOwl’s Hungarian transcript look like?

Here’s a sample recording, and NoteOwl’s transcript of it, unedited. On this sample NoteOwl matched 97.9% of the characters (punctuation and spacing aside).

The recording · 0:56

A short work call between Réka and Bence. NoteOwl detected the language by itself.

  1. Szébence, hogy állunk az internetes előadás sorozattal! Az első alkalomra már hatvanöten jelentkeztek, pedig még két hét van hátra. Úgyhogy

In English: Hi, Bence, how are we doing with the online talk series? Sixty-five people have already signed up for the first session, even though there are still two weeks to go. So

  2. szerintem nagyon jól állunk.

In English: I think we’re doing really well.

  3. Ez tényleg jó hír, és a felvételt utána kiküldjük mindenkinek, vagy csak a résztvevőknek. Én csak azoknak küldeném ki, akik regisztráltak. Így a

In English: That’s really good news. And afterwards, do we send the recording to everyone, or only to participants? I’d only send it to those who registered. That way

  4. következő alkalmakra is többen jelentkeznek majd. Jó ötlet legyen égy. A felvételt csak a regisztráltak kapják meg. Rendben, akkor

In English: more people will sign up for the next sessions too. Good idea, let’s do that. Only registered people get the recording. All right, then

  5. csütörtökik beállítom az automatikus levelet, amiben benne lesz, hol érhető el a felvétel. Nagyszerű én addig megírom a második alkalom

In English: by Thursday I’ll set up the automatic message that says where the recording can be found. Great. Meanwhile I’ll write the second session’s

How does NoteOwl write Hungarian?

With its long vowels, including the double-acute ő and ű: előadás, résztvevőknek, következő, érhető and Nagyszerű all came out right in the sample. Long words built from suffixes, like regisztráltak and kiküldjük, were written whole.

Numbers came out in words: hatvanöten, sixty-five people, and két hét, two weeks. The date was harder: “november tizenkettedike” came out as “november tizenket-e”, so check dates before you share a Hungarian transcript.

Greetings merged with the name after them: “Szia, Bence” became “Szébence” and “Köszi, Bence” became “Köszibence”. And csütörtökig, by Thursday, came out as “csütörtökik”, one letter off.

How do you dictate in Hungarian on a Mac?

Tap fn in any app, speak Hungarian and tap fn again: the words type at your cursor. In Settings → Auto-Context → Spoken language, choose Auto-detect, because Hungarian isn’t one of the languages that menu can pin.

The setting starts on your Mac’s own language, so on a Mac set to English, switch it to Auto-detect before you dictate or record a meeting in Hungarian. Recordings you import are always detected automatically, the way NoteOwl recognised the sample above.

Where is Hungarian spoken, and what do people record in it?

Hungarian is the first language of about 13 million people, in Hungary and in communities in neighbouring countries, and one of the European Union’s official languages. NoteOwl lists it as one language, without regional variants.

At work that means the értekezlet and its jegyzőkönyv, client calls, interviews, and online talks like the series the sample plans, read in standard Hungarian: sixty-five sign-ups two weeks before the first session, and the recording sent only to those who registered.

How do you get the best Hungarian transcripts?

Check dates, names and questions, and fix slips that keep coming back with custom vocabulary. In the sample, the first question ended with an exclamation mark and another came out as a statement.

A Vocabulary rule, part of NoteOwl Pro, can rejoin a word NoteOwl splits: type “előadás sorozattal” under “When I say…” and “előadássorozattal” under “Replace with…”. Rules match whole words, and Hungarian adds suffixes, so each form you use needs its own rule.
