How it works

How do you make Hungarian subtitles for a video?

Drop the video in. Its sound is transcribed as Hungarian a short piece at a time, and the text is cut into subtitles of one or two lines that show up as the words are spoken. Read them through, then download SRT or VTT.

  1. 1

    Choose the video

A vlog, an interview, a lecture or a product video: MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM, or its audio.

  2. 2

    Hungarian subtitles

Every piece is written in Hungarian, accents and all, through the first 30 minutes.

  3. 3

    Save the file

SRT for YouTube and video editors, VTT for a web player, or plain text.

How are Hungarian subtitles laid out?

In one or two lines of up to 42 characters, broken at commas and between phrases. Hungarian words are long and carry their endings, so a line often holds only four or five words.

Our 40 Hungarian test sentences became 100 subtitles: most had two lines, and about one in five fitted on a single line.

ő and ű on one line
Its linesEzek a föld, a víz, a levegő és a tűz.
Long words
Its linesA Sundarbans térség 1966 óta a vadon / élő állatok menedékeként szolgál,
A short sentence
Its linesAz egyik bomba a főkormányzói / hivatal előtt robbant fel.

Do numbers keep their suffixes in Hungarian subtitles?

Yes. A year or a measure comes back with its suffix after a hyphen, the Hungarian way, as in 1889-ben, 1940-ben or 80 km-re. And the ő and ű are the true double-acute letters, saved as UTF-8 so they survive editing.

Why set the subtitle language to Hungarian?

So that no stretch of the video is subtitled in a language it isn’t in. A guessed language can misread a short or noisy Hungarian phrase; set to Hungarian, every subtitle keeps Hungarian words and spelling from start to finish.

If the speakers switch between Hungarian and English for whole sentences, choose the main subtitle generator, which works out each stretch’s language.

What should you check in Hungarian subtitles?

Names above all, then quotation marks. Foreign names can come back in an international spelling or as a different word altogether, and „ ” quotation marks and brackets are left out.

  • Names

Sundarbans came back once as “Thunderbirds”, and Gourley as Gurley. Check each one against the video.

  • Spellings

Kisinyov came back as Kisinov, Szuper-G as Super G and Gibsont as Gibson-t.

  • Quotes

Put „ ” back around titles and quoted phrases before you publish.

FAQ

Questions about Hungarian subtitles

Is the Hungarian subtitle generator free?

Yes. It handles 3 Hungarian videos a day, up to 30 minutes of each, with no account and no watermark.

Can it make English subtitles from Hungarian speech?

No. The subtitles are in the Hungarian that is spoken; the generator doesn’t translate. Translate the SRT text for English and keep the numbers and times unchanged.

How do I correct a word?

Open the SRT or VTT in a text editor, change the word and save as UTF-8, so ő and ű stay intact. Leave the numbers, times and blank lines as they are.

Does the video leave my computer?

No. The browser opens it locally and takes out the sound. Short pieces of the sound go over a secure connection to a cloud AI transcription service, which transcribes each and deletes it; NoteOwl keeps nothing.

Which file should I upload to YouTube?

The SRT: add it in the video’s subtitles settings with Hungarian as the language. Keep the VTT for a player on your own site.

Will the subtitles say who is speaking?

No, the web generator writes the words alone. NoteOwl on a Mac names the speakers in the SRT files it saves.
