How it works

How do you translate a Hungarian recording into English?

To translate Hungarian audio to English, drop the recording on the page; it listens for Hungarian and writes English. The speech is transcribed in Hungarian in short pieces, then each line is translated with its time. Read the English, and switch to the Hungarian to check any line.

  1. 1

    Drop the Hungarian recording

A meeting, an interview, a lesson or a voice message, as MP3, M4A, WAV or OGG.

  2. 2

    Hungarian, then English

Transcribed as Hungarian, translated into English. Up to 30 minutes per recording.

  3. 3

    Use the English

Copy it, or save it as text or Word; download the Hungarian separately if you need it.

What do you get from a Hungarian recording?

An English transcript in paragraphs, each with the time it was said, to copy or save as Word. The Hungarian transcript keeps the same times, which helps when a colleague needs the exact Hungarian wording behind an English sentence.

Why does the English say “him” when the Hungarian didn’t?

Hungarian has a single pronoun, ő, for he and she, and English must pick one. “Nemrég Raonic legyőzte őt” came back as “Recently Raonic defeated him”. That was right here, but when you don’t know who was meant, check the line in the recording.

What happens to Hungarian word endings in English?

They are folded into English words. Hungarian adds endings to names, places and numbers, often after a hyphen; the English keeps the name and drops the ending. Units change too: km/ó, Hungarian for kilometres an hour, became km/h.

How accurately is Hungarian speech written down?

Well, with the slips mostly in names and rare words. In our test the English made from Hungarian speech rated good. A misheard name is translated as heard, so check names, places and technical terms against the recording before you quote them.

Do you work with Hungarian recordings often?

NoteOwl understands Hungarian on your Mac: it transcribes Hungarian recordings and calls with unlimited transcription, labels each speaker and keeps every conversation searchable. For a Hungarian transcript only, use Hungarian audio to text.

FAQ

Questions about translating Hungarian audio into English

Is the Hungarian to English audio translator free?

Yes. 3 recordings a day, up to 30 minutes each, with no account. The English, the Hungarian transcript and all downloads are included.

Can I translate a Hungarian voice message from my phone?

Yes. Save it as a file first: an iPhone voice memo is an M4A, a WhatsApp voice message usually an OGG or OPUS. Then drop it on the page.

Is the Hungarian transcript available too?

Yes. Switch the result to Original for the Hungarian text, with the same times, and save it as text or SRT.

What if the speakers mix Hungarian and English?

This page transcribes the whole recording as Hungarian. For mixed speech, use the main audio translator with the spoken language left on Detect automatically.

Are speakers labelled in the English?

No. The transcript has words and times only. NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker in its own transcripts.

Is my recording uploaded?

No. The browser keeps the file and sends short pieces of its sound to a cloud AI transcription service, then the Hungarian text to a cloud AI translation service; neither keeps it. NoteOwl stores no audio and no text.
