How it works
How do you get English subtitles for a Hungarian video?
To translate a Hungarian video to English, drop it on the page. Its sound is written down in Hungarian, each line is translated, and the English becomes subtitles timed to the speech. Download the English SRT and play it with the video.
- 1
Add the Hungarian video
MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM. Only the sound is read; the picture stays with you.
- 2
English subtitles are made
Hungarian is transcribed, translated and timed. Up to 30 minutes per video.
- 3
Download the English
SRT or VTT; the Hungarian subtitles wait under Original.
Can you watch a Hungarian video with English subtitles this way?
Yes. Download the English SRT, then open it in your video player or give it the same name as the video so the player picks it up. If you publish the video, upload the SRT alongside it for English-speaking viewers.
Why are the English subtitles split differently from the Hungarian?
Hungarian often puts the most important word first and arranges the rest around it, so English reorders the sentence. The English is cut into subtitles after translating, following English sentences and the speaker’s pauses rather than the Hungarian breaks.
“Ezek közül a kövek közül tizenöt a tavaly júliusi meteoritesőnek tudható be” became “Of these stones, fifteen are attributed to last July's meteor shower”. Each English subtitle still has at most 2 lines of about 42 characters.
How do Hungarian times and phrases read in English subtitles?
Plainly. The Hungarian ending on a time drops away, and the English adds nothing the speaker didn’t say: “8: 46-kor” became “at 8:46”, with no a.m. Idioms are translated by meaning, so a “teltházas” concert became a sold-out one.
- Pontosan 8: 46-kor elcsendesült a város…
- EnglishExactly at 8:46 the city fell silent…
- …egy teltházas koncertet adjon.
- English…could give a sold-out concert.
| Hungarian | English |
|---|---|
| Pontosan 8: 46-kor elcsendesült a város… | Exactly at 8:46 the city fell silent… |
| …egy teltházas koncertet adjon. | …could give a sold-out concert. |
How well is spoken Hungarian recognised?
Well: in our test Hungarian speech was transcribed with few mistakes, mostly in names and rare words, and the English made from it rated good. A misheard name is translated as heard, so read names through before you publish.
Can you get the Hungarian subtitles too?
Yes. Switch to Original for Hungarian subtitles of the same speech, laid out by the same rules, with long Hungarian words kept whole: “hogy a genetikai változatosságnak két” fits on one line. Publish both if your audience reads either language.

Is the Hungarian to English video translator free?
Yes. 3 videos a day, each up to 30 minutes, with no account and no watermark. English SRT and VTT and the Hungarian subtitles are included.
Does it replace the Hungarian sound with English?
No. It makes English subtitles. The video and its Hungarian sound are not changed.
Can I add the English subtitles to YouTube?
Yes. In YouTube Studio, open Subtitles for the video, add English and upload the SRT with timing. The Hungarian SRT can go up the same way.
Do the subtitles include speaker names?
No. The web tool writes the words only. NoteOwl on a Mac labels speakers and can save SRT subtitles with their names.
Is my video uploaded?
Only its sound, in short pieces, to a cloud AI transcription service; the Hungarian text then goes to a cloud AI translation service. Both discard it, and the picture never leaves your device.
