How it works
How do you translate a Russian recording into English?
To translate Russian audio to English, drop the recording here; the page listens for Russian and writes English. Short pieces are transcribed in Cyrillic, then the lines are translated in batches, each keeping its time. Read the English transcript, or switch to Original for the Russian.
- 1
Add the Russian recording
A Telegram voice message, an interview, a lecture or a call: MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG or Opus.
- 2
Russian, then English
Transcribed in Russian, then translated. Up to 30 minutes of each file.
- 3
Use the English
Copy it, or save TXT or Word; the Russian transcript saves on its own with the same times.
How are names spelled when Russian becomes English?
By sound, from the Cyrillic. “Раоничу” came back as “Raonić” and “Пике-младший” as “Pike Jr.”, where English writes Raonic and Piquet Jr. Places came back correctly in our test (“в Брисбене” became “in Brisbane”), but check people’s names against a source before you quote them.
Names that reached Russian from another language are the likeliest to change on the way back, because the Cyrillic spelling records how they sound, not how they were written.
Why might the English not match what you expected?
Because it follows the Russian. One test sentence said a driver “не был допущен к гонкам”, was not allowed to race, though its English original said he was sacked; the translation kept “was not allowed to race”. Judge a line against the recording, not your expectations.
What does English add that Russian leaves out?
Mostly “a” and “the”, which Russian doesn’t have. The translation chooses them: “на турнире в Брисбене” became “at a tournament in Brisbane”, and “Эта атака” became “This attack”. Russian case endings disappear, leaving the plain English names.
- Недавно он проиграл Раоничу на турнире в Брисбене.
- EnglishHe recently lost to Raonić at a tournament in Brisbane.
- Эта атака сильно повлияла на отношения между Индией и Пакистаном.
- EnglishThis attack significantly affected relations between India and Pakistan.
- Пятнадцать из этих метеоритов связывают с метеоритным дождем, прошедшим в июле прошлого года.
- EnglishFifteen of these meteorites are linked to the meteor shower that occurred in July last year.

How well is Russian speech understood?
Very well. Russian was among the cleanest languages to transcribe in our test, and a whole Russian recording translated into English rated good. A long sentence about Skype’s markets in China, Eastern Europe and Brazil came back as one clear English sentence.
Are Russian recordings part of your work?
NoteOwl understands Russian on your Mac: it transcribes Russian interviews and calls with unlimited transcription, labels each speaker and keeps every conversation searchable. For a Russian transcript with no translation, use Russian audio to text.
FAQ
Questions about translating Russian audio into English
Is the Russian to English audio translator free?
Yes. 3 recordings a day, up to 30 minutes each, and no account. The English, the Russian transcript and every download are part of it.
Can I translate a Telegram voice message?
Yes. Save the voice message from the chat as a file, usually OGG or Opus, and drop it on the page. A short message comes back as a few lines of English with their times.
Can I keep the Russian transcript as well?
Yes. Choose Original to see the Russian in Cyrillic and save it as text or SRT. It has the same times as the English, line for line.
Can I get the English as a Word file?
Yes. The Word document opens with the recording’s length, “Translated: Russian → English” and the date, then the English paragraphs with their times.
What if the speakers switch into English?
This page transcribes every part as Russian. For a recording that mixes Russian and English, use the main audio translator with the spoken language on Detect automatically.
Does it name the speakers?
No. You get the words and their times without names. NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker in its own transcripts.
Is my Russian recording stored?
No. Your browser reads the file and sends short pieces of its sound to a cloud AI transcription service, then the Russian text to a cloud AI translation service; both discard it once done. NoteOwl keeps nothing.
