How it works
How do you translate a Swedish recording into English?
To translate Swedish audio to English, upload the file here; the page is set to Swedish speech and English text. The Swedish is transcribed in short pieces, then translated in batches of lines, each keeping its timestamp. Read the English, or switch to Original for the Swedish.
- 1
Upload the Swedish audio
A möte, a föreläsning, a röstmeddelande: MP3, M4A, WAV or OGG all work.
- 2
Swedish text, then English
First a Swedish transcript, then the English. Up to 30 minutes per recording.
- 3
Use the English
Copy it or save text or Word; the Swedish transcript downloads on its own, with the same times.
How good is the English you get from Swedish speech?
Strong in our test. Swedish speech was transcribed cleanly, and the full recording translated into English was among the better results we measured. The slips we did see were mostly names and a few misheard words.
Does it understand Swedish times like “halv sju”?
Yes. “Halv sju” means 6:30, half an hour before seven, and is easy to get wrong. In our test the speaker said “mellan halv sju och halv åtta” and the English read “between half past six and half past seven”, which is right.
Clock times said as numbers came through too: “vid 23.35 på kvällen” became “at 23:35 in the evening”. The English keeps the 24-hour clock where the Swedish used it, so change it to 11:35 p.m. if your readers expect that.
Which words come out wrong in English?
Names, and words the transcript heard wrongly. In our test the skier Gourley came back as “Golley”, and a misheard Swedish word, “Blyerspännaren” for “blyertspennan” (the pencil), went into the English untranslated. Use the time beside the paragraph to listen again.
Lower-case names
In a written test sentence, “ungerns” (Hungary’s, without its capital) became “the youngster’s Grand Prix”.
Foreign names
Names from other languages come back as heard: Fisichella appeared as “Fischiella”.
Odd leftovers
A Swedish word left untranslated in the English usually means the transcript misheard it.
What changes when Swedish becomes English?
Little that you lose. Swedish du and ni both become “you”, and plain sentences translate plainly: “Han förlorade nyligen mot Raonic i Brisbane Open” came back as “He recently lost to Raonic at the Brisbane Open”. Swedish and English order most sentences alike, so lines rarely need reshaping.

FAQ
Questions about translating Swedish audio into English
Is the Swedish to English audio translator free?
Yes. 3 recordings a day, up to 30 minutes each, and no account. The English, the Swedish transcript and every download are part of it.
Can I translate a Swedish voice message?
Yes. Save it from the chat app as an audio file, usually OPUS, OGG or M4A, and upload it here. You get the English and the Swedish with times.
Is the Swedish transcript included?
Yes. Choose Original to read the Swedish and download it as text or SRT. Its times match the English, line for line.
What about speakers from Finland?
The page transcribes all Swedish as one language, and our test used Swedish from Sweden. For a Finland Swedish speaker, read names and local words in the English with a little extra care.
Does it show who was speaking?
No. The English transcript has words and times, without speaker names. NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker in its transcripts.
Is the audio uploaded?
Not as a file. Your browser sends short pieces of the sound to a cloud AI transcription service, then the Swedish text to a cloud AI translation service; each discards what it was sent. NoteOwl stores no audio and no text.
