How it works
How do you translate a Thai recording into English?
To translate Thai audio to English, drop the recording on this page, which is set to Thai. What was said is written out in Thai script, then several lines at a time become English, each tied to its moment in the recording. The Thai is one switch away.
- 1
Add the Thai recording
A call with a supplier in Bangkok, a lecture, an interview or a voice message, as MP3, M4A, WAV or OGG.
- 2
Thai script, then English
Transcribed in Thai, then translated, for up to 30 minutes of each recording.
- 3
Keep the English
Copy it, or save TXT or a Word file with a time on each paragraph.
How well does Thai speech come through in English?
The meaning comes through, though in our test of whole recordings Thai scored lower in English than most languages. Plain statements were often exact, such as “the largest island is King George, home to Villa Las Estelles”. The weak spot is names heard by sound.
Why are some names spelled oddly in the English?
Because Thai writes foreign names in Thai letters, by sound, and the English has to turn them back. In our tests Raonic came back as “Raonik”, Piquet Jr. as “Picket Junior”, and a UN expert, Danielle Lantagne, as “Daniel Lueang”. Correct the names you know before sharing.
- เขาเพิ่งพ่ายแพ้ราโอนิกเมื่อไม่นานมานี้ในบริสเบนโอเพ่น
- English translationHe just lost to Raonik not long ago at the Brisbane Open.
- ณ เวลา 8.46 น. พอดิบพอดี ความเงียบปกคลุมไปทั่วเมือง
- English translationAt exactly 8:46, silence covered the city…
| Thai | English translation |
|---|---|
| เขาเพิ่งพ่ายแพ้ราโอนิกเมื่อไม่นานมานี้ในบริสเบนโอเพ่น | He just lost to Raonik not long ago at the Brisbane Open. |
| ณ เวลา 8.46 น. พอดิบพอดี ความเงียบปกคลุมไปทั่วเมือง | At exactly 8:46, silence covered the city… |
Why does the English say “he” when the Thai didn’t?
Thai’s everyday word for “he” and “she” is the same, เขา, so English has to choose. In our test “เขาเพิ่งพ่ายแพ้…” became “He just lost…”, which was right there. When it matters who is meant, listen to that part of the recording.
The polite particles go too. A Thai speaker ends courteous sentences with ครับ or ค่ะ, which also tell you whether a man or a woman is talking; English has no such word, so the transcript in English reads the same for both.
How do Thai times and numbers come out in English?
In English form. Thai writes the time with a dot and น., as in “8.46 น.”, and the English gave “8:46”. Figures are written in Arabic digits in the Thai transcript and stay digits in the English; check the amounts that matter against the recording.
Thai meetings every week?
On a Mac, NoteOwl handles Thai among the languages it understands: Thai meetings are written out with unlimited transcription, each voice gets a name, and you can search back through every conversation. Thai text alone, with no English? Thai audio to text does that.
FAQ
Thai recordings in English: questions
Is the Thai to English audio translator free?
Yes. 3 recordings a day, each up to 30 minutes, with no account. The English transcript, the Thai one and every download are included.
Do I get the Thai text too?
Yes: Original shows what was said in Thai script, paragraph for paragraph beside the English times, and it downloads as TXT or SRT.
Does it work for Isan or southern Thai?
The page has a single Thai setting. For a strong regional accent or dialect, try a short clip first and read the Thai transcript before translating a long recording.
What if English words come up in the Thai?
Short English terms are often written in Latin letters inside the Thai transcript and pass straight into the English. If whole stretches are in English, use the main audio translator with Detect automatically.
Are the speakers told apart?
Not on the web page, which gives words and times. Telling voices apart and naming them is what NoteOwl does on a Mac.
Is my recording sent anywhere?
The recording stays on your device. Only brief slices of sound leave the browser, for a cloud AI transcription service, followed by the Thai lines for a cloud AI translation service; neither holds on to them, and NoteOwl saves nothing.
