How it works

How do you translate a Greek recording into English?

To translate Greek audio to English, drop the recording here; the page expects Greek speech and writes English. It transcribes the Greek in short pieces, then translates each line, keeping the time it was spoken. Read the English, and open the Greek transcript when a line needs checking.

  1. 1

    Add the Greek recording

A voice note, a phone call, a lecture or an interview, as MP3, M4A, WAV or OGG.

  2. 2

    Greek, then English

Transcribed in Greek and translated into English. Up to 30 minutes per recording.

  3. 3

    Copy or save

The English as text or Word; the Greek transcript downloads separately.

What do you get from a Greek recording?

A readable English transcript, split into paragraphs with times, that you can copy or save as a Word document. The Greek transcript sits behind it with the same times, in Greek letters, for anyone who wants the original wording.

Why do some names look wrong in the English?

Because Greek writes foreign names in Greek letters, and the translation has to guess how they were spelled before. In our test several came back spelled by sound, and a few as other words. Check every name before you quote or file the English.

Where does “he” come from when the Greek has no pronoun?

From the verb. Greek usually drops the subject because the verb ending already says who, so “Πρόσφατα έχασε…” (recently lost) became “He recently lost…”. The ending doesn’t show gender, so English picks one; the lines around it usually decide.

How well does spoken Greek come through in English?

Well, apart from names. In our test, Greek speech was transcribed cleanly and the English made from it rated good, reading as ordinary English sentences. A word the Greek transcript misheard is translated as misheard, so keep the recording handy for anything you plan to quote.

FAQ

Questions about translating Greek audio into English

Is the Greek to English audio translator free?

Yes. 3 recordings a day, each up to 30 minutes, with no account. The English, the Greek transcript and all downloads are included.

Can it translate a Greek voice message?

Yes. Save the voice message from WhatsApp or Telegram as a file, usually OGG or OPUS, and drop it on the page. A short message comes back in English quickly.

Do I get the Greek transcript too?

Yes. Switch the result to Original to read the Greek, then save it as text or SRT. Its times match the English, line for line.

What if the speakers switch to English?

This page transcribes the whole recording as Greek. For a recording that mixes the two, use the main audio translator with the spoken language on Detect automatically.

Does the English show who was speaking?

No. The words come with times but no speaker names. NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker in its own transcripts.

Is the recording uploaded?

No. The browser reads it and sends short pieces of the sound to a cloud AI transcription service, then the Greek text to a cloud AI translation service; each discards what it was sent. NoteOwl keeps no audio and no text.
