How it works

How do you translate a Slovak recording into English?

To translate Slovak audio to English, drop the file on this page, which expects Slovak speech. It is transcribed in short pieces, then translated into English in batches, each line keeping its time. Read the English transcript; switch to Original for the Slovak wording.

  1. 1

    Add the Slovak audio

An interview, a phone call, a lecture or a voice note: MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG or Opus.

  2. 2

    Slovak first, then English

Transcribed as Slovak, then translated. Up to 30 minutes of each recording.

  3. 3

    Use the English

Copy it, or save TXT or Word; the Slovak transcript saves separately.

How does Slovak speech come out in English?

Clearly. Slovak was transcribed well in our test, with the slips mostly in names and rare words, and a whole Slovak recording translated into English rated good. Sentences with several clauses came back complete, none of them cut short.

Pätnásť z týchto hornín pochádza z meteorického roja, ku ktorému došlo minulý rok v júli.
EnglishFifteen of these rocks come from a meteor shower that occurred last July.
Útok vytvoril vo vzťahoch medzi Indiou a Pakistanom obrovské napätie.
EnglishThe attack created huge tension in the relations between India and Pakistan.

Why does some of the English sound literal?

Because it stays close to the Slovak verb. “Nedávno podľahol Raonicovi” came back as “He recently succumbed to Raonic”, where an English writer would say “lost to Raonic”. The meaning is right; when you quote, smooth the wording and keep the facts.

Does the English keep the order of the Slovak sentence?

Where English allows it. “Útok vytvoril vo vzťahoch… obrovské napätie” saves the “huge tension” for the end; the English moved it to follow the verb. A long Skype sentence kept the Slovak’s order of clauses, ending “where Skype has a strong position”.

What happens to names and small slips?

Case endings fall away, “Raonicovi” returning as “Raonic”, and the masculine “podľahol” gives English its “He”. A small slip in the text didn’t derail it: a Slovak test sentence had “Maďarskav” run together, and still came back as “the Hungarian Grand Prix of 2009”.

A name the transcription mishears is a different matter: it is translated as heard. Check unfamiliar names against the recording at their time.

Are Slovak recordings a regular part of your week?

NoteOwl understands Slovak on your Mac: it transcribes Slovak calls and recordings with unlimited transcription, labels each speaker and keeps every conversation searchable. For a Slovak transcript with no translation, use Slovak audio to text.

FAQ

Questions about translating Slovak audio into English

Is the Slovak to English audio translator free?

Yes. 3 recordings a day, up to 30 minutes of each, without an account. The English, the Slovak transcript and every download come with it.

What if the speaker is Czech, not Slovak?

This page transcribes everything as Slovak. For Czech speech, use the Czech to English page, which listens for Czech.

Can I keep the Slovak transcript?

Yes. Choose Original to read the Slovak with the same times as the English, and save it as text or SRT.

Can the English be saved as a Word file?

Yes. It opens with the recording’s length, “Translated: Slovak → English” and the date, then the English paragraphs, with times or without.

Does the transcript name the speakers?

No. You get words and times only. NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker in the transcripts it makes.

Is my Slovak recording stored?

No. Your browser sends short pieces of the sound to a cloud AI transcription service and then the Slovak text to a cloud AI translation service; each discards what it was sent, and NoteOwl keeps nothing.
