Latvian subtitle generator

This Latvian subtitle generator writes subtitles for a video spoken in Latvian: the language is set to Latvian, long vowels and soft consonants keep their marks, and every subtitle is timed to the speaker, ready as SRT or VTT.

How it works

How do you make Latvian subtitles for a video?

Drop the video on the page. Its sound is transcribed as Latvian in short pieces and laid out as subtitles of one or two lines, each shown while its words are spoken. Read them in the preview, then download SRT or VTT.

  1. 1

    Drop the video

An interview, a lecture, a vlog or a recorded event: MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM, or its audio.

  2. 2

    Latvian subtitles

Every piece is written in Latvian, through the first 30 minutes of the video.

  3. 3

    Download

SRT for YouTube and video editors, VTT for a web player, or a plain text file.

How are Latvian subtitles laid out?

In one or two lines of up to 42 characters, broken at commas and between phrases and never inside a word. A subtitle ends at a full stop, a comma or a pause, and stays on screen for 1 to 7 seconds.

From our 40 Latvian test sentences came 95 subtitles; about a quarter of them fitted on one line.

ņ, ē and ī
Its two linesņemiet vērā visas zīmes un uzmanīgi / ievērojiet drošības brīdinājumus.
Long vowels
Its two linesParasti jūs vienmēr šeit dzirdat / tūristu un pārdevēju skaņas.
A comma pair
Its two linesLielākā daļa pārtikas, / ko mēs ēdam, ir augi.

Do Latvian subtitles keep the long vowels and soft consonants?

Yes: ā, ē, ī and ū, and ģ, ķ, ļ and ņ, are written into the subtitles and saved as UTF-8. Mistakes go both ways, a macron missed or one added: Švarcenegers came back as Švārcenēgers.

Why set the subtitle language to Latvian?

So that every subtitle is in Latvian. When the language is guessed, a short Latvian phrase can be taken for another language, and that whole block of subtitles is written in it. Set to Latvian, no stretch is left to a guess.

For a video that moves between Latvian and Russian or English for whole sentences, use the main subtitle generator: it detects each stretch’s language.

What should you check in Latvian subtitles?

Read every subtitle for meaning, not only spelling. One test sentence, “Peldēšana ir droša” (swimming is safe), came back as “peldeža nedroša”, which says the opposite. Names and abbreviations need the same care.

  • Meaning

A negation appeared there that nobody said. Read safety and health lines twice.

  • Abbreviations

ASV came back as the word Aisvē. Type abbreviations back in capitals.

  • Quotation marks

„ ” were left out around quoted words. Add them where a quote matters.

Can NoteOwl make Latvian subtitles on a Mac?

Yes. NoteOwl understands Latvian on your Mac: it transcribes Latvian recordings there with unlimited transcription, separates the speakers and saves SRT subtitles with their names. For a Latvian transcript rather than subtitles, use Latvian audio to text.

FAQ

Questions about Latvian subtitles

Is the Latvian subtitle generator free?

Yes: 3 Latvian videos a day, each up to 30 minutes, with no sign-up and no watermark on the subtitles.

Can it make English subtitles from Latvian speech?

No, it writes the Latvian that is spoken and doesn’t translate. Translate the SRT’s text for English and keep the subtitle numbers and times as they are.

How do I fix a word without losing the macrons?

Open the SRT or VTT in a text editor, correct the word and save as UTF-8. The long vowels and soft consonants stay intact; leave the numbers and times alone.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Your browser opens the video on your device and takes out its sound. Short pieces of the sound go over a secure connection to a cloud AI transcription service, which transcribes and discards each one. NoteOwl stores nothing.

Can the subtitles be burned in?

Not on this page, which makes subtitle files. A video editor can import the SRT and burn the subtitles into the picture when it exports.

Are the speakers named?

No, the subtitles hold only the words. NoteOwl on a Mac adds each speaker’s name to the SRT files it saves.
