How it works
How do you make Lithuanian subtitles for a video?
Drop the video here. The sound is transcribed as Lithuanian in short pieces, then split into subtitles of one or two lines that follow the speaker’s pauses. Go through them in the preview and download SRT or VTT.
- 1
Drop in the video
A lecture, a vlog, an interview or a webinar: MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM, or the audio alone.
- 2
Lithuanian subtitles
Each piece is written in Lithuanian, over the first 30 minutes of the video.
- 3
Save the subtitles
SRT for YouTube or an editor, VTT for a web player, or plain text.
How are Lithuanian subtitles laid out?
In one or two lines of up to 42 characters, timed to the speaker and broken after commas and at pauses. Every test sentence came back with its full stop, so subtitles often end exactly where a sentence does.
Lithuanian words are long, so a line fills quickly: lines from our 40 test sentences held about 29 characters, often only four or five words.

- A speed

| Subtitle | Its two lines |
|---|---|
| Commas and ė | Pabėgiai buvo sukurti gana seniai, / siekiant sutvirtinti bėgius, |
| An aside as a sentence | Kultūrų skirtumai nereiškia, / kad taip elgtis derama. |
| A speed | o po minutės jų greitis / jau siekia 70 km per valandą. |
Do the Lithuanian letters survive in the subtitle file?
Yes. ą, č, ę, ė, į, š, ų, ū and ž go into the SRT and VTT as UTF-8 text, so they stay intact when the file is opened, edited or uploaded. Long vowels are the weak spot: paplūdimiams once came back as papludimams.
What happens to quotation marks and brackets?
They are left out. A title such as „Operation Dragoon“ comes back without its „“, and a remark in brackets turns into a sentence of its own. Put the quotation marks back in the SRT where a title or a quote needs them.
Why set the subtitle language to Lithuanian?
So no part of the video is subtitled in a neighbouring language by mistake. When the language is guessed, a short Lithuanian phrase can be taken for another one; set to Lithuanian, every subtitle keeps Lithuanian spelling.
If the speakers switch into English or Russian for whole passages, use the main subtitle generator, which detects the language of each stretch.
What should you check in Lithuanian subtitles?
Names and borrowed words: they are the likeliest slips. Names can be spelled by ear, foreign ones can keep a spelling Lithuanian would adapt, and international words can lose or gain a letter.
Names
Carpanedo came back as Karpenado. Compare every name with the video.
Foreign spellings
Casablancos and Ohio Blue Ash came back where our reference had Kasablankos and Ohajo Blu Ašo.
Borrowed words
paralimpinio came back as parolimpinio. Give technical and international words a second look.

FAQ
Questions about Lithuanian subtitles
Is the Lithuanian subtitle generator free?
Yes. Make Lithuanian subtitles for 3 videos a day, up to 30 minutes of each, with no account and no watermark on anything.
Which file should I download for YouTube?
The SRT. Upload it in the video’s subtitles settings and choose Lithuanian as its language; the VTT suits a player on your own website instead.
Can it make English subtitles from Lithuanian speech?
No. The subtitles are in the Lithuanian that is spoken; nothing is translated. Translate the SRT’s text if you need English, and keep its numbers and times unchanged.
How do I fix a word in the subtitles?
Open the SRT or VTT in any text editor, correct the word and save the file as UTF-8, so the Lithuanian letters stay intact. Leave the numbers, times and blank lines alone.
Is the video uploaded?
No. Your browser opens it on your device and extracts the sound, and short pieces of that sound go over a secure connection to a cloud AI transcription service, which transcribes and discards each one. NoteOwl keeps neither the video nor the subtitles.
Will the subtitles show who is talking?
No. The web generator writes the words only. NoteOwl on a Mac names the speaker at the start of their subtitles in the SRT files it saves.
