How it works
How do you make Thai subtitles for a video?
Drop the video on the page. Its sound is transcribed in Thai a few seconds at a time, and the text is cut into subtitles at word boundaries and pauses, one or two lines each. Read them in the preview, then save SRT or VTT.
- 1
Choose a video
A vlog, a review, a class or an interview, as video or as the audio alone.
- 2
Check the ซับไทย
Each subtitle appears with its number, times and lines. The first 30 minutes of each video are subtitled.
- 3
Download
SRT for YouTube or a video editor, VTT for a web player.
Why set the subtitles to Thai?
So every subtitle is written in Thai script. When the language is guessed, a short or noisy stretch can be taken for another language, and a run of subtitles in the wrong script is no use to Thai viewers. Set to Thai, the whole video comes back in Thai.
Speakers who switch to English for whole passages are better served by the main subtitle generator, which detects the language of each passage. English terms inside Thai, such as “pH” or “FBI”, stay in Latin letters on this page too.
How long is a line of Thai subtitles?
At most 35 characters, counting every tone mark and every vowel written above or below a letter. Netflix’s Thai guide sets the same 35 but leaves those marks out of the count, so lines here are shorter on screen than that limit allows.
About one character in five in our Thai test was such a mark. Subtitles stay up long enough to read about 15 characters a second.

| Without tone marks and vowels above or below | 22 | 32 |
How are Thai lines broken without spaces?
With your browser’s Thai word dictionary, which finds where one word ends and the next begins, so a line never splits a word in the middle. Thai also puts spaces between phrases, and a line can break there too; 51 of our 183 test lines contained one.
Compounds are worth a look, because the dictionary sometimes divides them into their parts: in our test “แปลกใจ” broke as แปลก / ใจ and “ถูกทอดทิ้ง” ran over two subtitles. Move the second part back in a text editor; the timing is unaffected.
Why do Thai subtitles have no full stops?
Because Thai doesn’t use them: a space separates sentences, and Netflix’s Thai guide also leaves out question marks and dashes. Our 40 test clips held one comma and no full stops, so subtitles end where the speaker pauses or the line fills, not at punctuation.
Numbers came back in Arabic digits, as in “ในทศวรรษที่ 1920” and “2,500 บาท”. The same guide writes one to ten in Thai words and marks each of two speakers with a hyphen and a space, which you add yourself: the generator writes the words alone.
Thai subtitles with speaker names, made on a Mac?
Thai is one of the languages NoteOwl understands on a Mac. It transcribes Thai recordings there with unlimited transcription, keeps each speaker apart and saves SRT subtitles with their names, using on-device AI models. For a Thai transcript instead, use Thai audio to text.
FAQ
Questions about Thai subtitles
Is the Thai subtitle generator free?
Yes. Make Thai subtitles for 3 videos a day, up to 30 minutes of each, without an account or a watermark, and download SRT, VTT or text.
Will the tone marks display correctly?
Yes, in players and editors that read UTF-8, the encoding the files are saved in. The marks are stored with the letters they sit on. If you edit a file, save it as UTF-8 again.
Can it make Thai subtitles for an English video?
No. It writes down Thai speech and doesn’t translate. Subtitle an English video in English first, then translate the text of each subtitle into Thai and keep its number and times.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Pick the video from your files or photos. The line breaks come from the phone browser’s own Thai word dictionary, which current Safari and Chrome include, so nothing needs installing.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The browser opens the video on your device. Only short pieces of its sound are sent, over a secure connection, to a cloud AI transcription service that transcribes and discards each one; NoteOwl stores nothing.
