How it works
How do you add Spanish subtitles to an English video?
To translate an English video to Spanish, drop the video here and wait a moment. Its English speech is transcribed and translated, and the Spanish is broken into subtitles that come up as each English line is spoken. Save the SRT or VTT and add it to your upload.

Will Spanish subtitles fit on screen?
Yes. Spanish runs about a tenth longer than English, which is why the Spanish gets a layout of its own after translation: 2 lines at most, up to 42 characters each, timed to start with the English words and stay long enough to read.
Viewers read subtitles at around 17 characters a second, so a longer Spanish sentence may be spread over more subtitles than the English used. They still match the speech, because each one starts with the words it translates.
Do Spanish subtitles open questions with ¿ and ¡?
Yes. “Wow! That’s amazing!” became “¡Guau! ¡Eso es increíble!”, and questions open with ¿. When a subtitle is split over lines, an opening ¿ or ¡ stays with the word after it, so no line ends on a stranded mark.
Should Spanish subtitles show 15:30 or 3:30 p.m.?
It depends where your viewers are. Our test kept English habits: “a las 3:30 p.m.”, “6.5” and “$1,250”, which suits Mexico and Spanish speakers in the US. For Spain or Argentina, change them to 15:30, 6,5 and 1.250 in the subtitle file.
- The meeting is on October 16, 2026, at 3:30 p.m.
- Spanish subtitleLa reunión es el 16 de octubre de 2026, a las 3:30 p.m.
- Thank you all for coming today.
- Spanish subtitleGracias a todos por venir hoy.
- Wow! That’s amazing!
- Spanish subtitle¡Guau! ¡Eso es increíble!

Do names get Spanish accents in the subtitles?
No. Names stay exactly as the English transcript spelled them: “Dr. Patel and Maria Lopez” became “El Dr. Patel y Maria Lopez”, without the accents of María López. If the person writes their name with accents, add them in the SRT.
Making videos for English and Spanish viewers?
NoteOwl understands Spanish and English on your Mac: it imports MP4 videos, transcribes them with unlimited transcription and saves SRT subtitles naming each speaker. If the video already has English subtitles, the subtitle translator keeps their exact timing.
FAQ
Spanish subtitles for English videos: questions
Is the English to Spanish video translator free?
Yes. 3 videos a day, up to 30 minutes each, with no account and no watermark. Spanish SRT and VTT and the English subtitles all download.
Are viewers addressed as tú or usted?
Both appear: tú for an everyday question to one person, usted for a line with “sir”. A group is often thanked without a pronoun at all, as in “Gracias a todos por venir hoy”. Adjust to how your channel talks.
How good is the Spanish?
In our test of translation from English, Spanish scored above the dedicated translation system we compared it with. Numbers, names and the tú or usted choice are what to read before you publish.
Does it dub the video into Spanish?
No. It makes Spanish subtitles and leaves the video and its English sound as they are.
Where do I upload the Spanish SRT?
On YouTube, open Studio, go to Subtitles, add Spanish and upload the SRT with timing. Editors such as Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve import SRT too, and web players take the VTT.
Is the video uploaded?
No. Only short pieces of its sound go to a cloud AI transcription service, then the English text to a cloud AI translation service, and each discards them after replying. The picture stays on your device.
