How it works

How do you translate English subtitles into Slovak?

Add the English SRT or VTT; the page is set to Slovak. Neighbouring subtitles are translated together in batches, and every Slovak line goes back into its original subtitle with the same number and times. Read it through and download the Slovak file.

  1. 1

    Add the file

An .srt or .vtt in English, Czech or another language; it is detected, or choose it under From.

  2. 2

    Translate into Slovak

A sentence split over two subtitles is translated as one, each part staying in its own subtitle.

  3. 3

    Download

Slovak SRT or VTT, or a bilingual SRT with the original line on top.

Is Slovak shorter than English in subtitles?

Slightly, on average: in our test Slovak ran a little shorter than English. Line by line it varies. “The meeting is on October 16, 2026, at 3:30 p.m.” needs two English lines and one Slovak line, while a short thank-you went the other way.

Either way, the times stay as they were and a subtitle never grows past 2 lines; a longer translation just fills them more fully.

The meeting is on October / 16, 2026, at 3:30 p.m.
Slovak subtitleStretnutie je 16. októbra 2026 o 15:30.
Thank you all for coming today.
Slovak subtitleĎakujem vám všetkým za to, / že ste dnes prišli.

Will the Slovak subtitles use vy or ty?

Both, which is worth fixing. In our test, “Can you send me…?” became the formal “Môžete…?” and “sir” got “Prosím, posaďte sa, pane”, but “you know” became the familiar “No, vieš”. Pick one form for your audience and change the others in the file.

Searching the downloaded file for “vieš”, “môžeš” or “Môžete” finds most of the lines to bring into line.

How do dates, prices and times look in Slovak?

As Slovak writes them: “16. októbra 2026 o 15:30”, with a full stop after the day and the 24-hour clock; “6,5 percenta” with a decimal comma; and “1 250 $”, with a space in the thousands and before the dollar sign, as Netflix’s Slovak subtitle guide asks.

Does the Slovak keep track of women?

Yes, where the English shows it. “Our doctor said she would call back tomorrow” became “Naša lekárka povedala”, the feminine word for doctor with a feminine verb. A group with no clue, “The teachers were tired”, became the masculine “Učitelia boli po výlete unavení”.

FAQ

Slovak subtitle translation: what people ask

Is translating subtitles into Slovak free?

Yes. 3 files a day, each with up to 30,000 characters of subtitle text, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Can I translate Czech subtitles into Slovak?

Yes. Set From to Czech, or leave it on Detect automatically. The Czech goes straight into Slovak, not through English.

How good is the Slovak translation?

In our test of fifty English sentences, translation into Slovak scored above the dedicated translation system we compared it with. The vy-or-ty mix, names and figures are what to check before you publish.

Do the Slovak subtitles stay in sync?

Yes. Every start and end time and every subtitle number is copied from your file unchanged, so the Slovak appears exactly when the original did.

Can I show the original and Slovak together?

Yes. The bilingual SRT puts the original line above the Slovak in each subtitle, useful for learners and for reviewing a translation.

Is my file uploaded?

The file stays in your browser. Only its subtitle text is sent, in batches over a secure connection, to a cloud AI translation service that discards it after translating. NoteOwl stores nothing.
