How it works
How do you translate English subtitles into Estonian?
Load the SRT or VTT on this page, with Estonian already chosen. The subtitle text is translated in batches of consecutive subtitles, so a sentence that runs across two keeps its sense, and each Estonian line is put back at the original start and end time. Then download.
- 1
Load your file
An SRT or VTT in English, Finnish, Russian or another listed language; the language is recognised for you.
- 2
Translate to Estonian
Only the subtitle text is sent and changed; numbers and timecodes stay as they were.
- 3
Save the .et.srt
Your file’s name with the Estonian code, such as Loeng.et.srt, or a VTT or bilingual SRT.
Do Estonian subtitles need more room than English?
No, slightly less. In our test, Estonian translations came out a little shorter than the English sentences, so lines rarely crowd. Each subtitle keeps its time and is laid out again in at most 2 lines aiming for 42 characters.
Breaks fall between words and prefer punctuation. A date such as “16. oktoobril” is kept on one line where possible, as the full stop after the day isn’t the end of a sentence.
Will the Estonian say sina or teie?
Both, depending on the line. Everyday questions came back with sina (“Kas saad mulle raporti enne reedet saata?”, “Noh, tead küll”), while “Please sit down, sir” became the polite “Palun istuge, härra.” For a formal video, change the sina forms, so “Kas saad” becomes “Kas saate”.
How do dates and prices look in Estonian subtitles?
“October 16, 2026, at 3:30 p.m.” became “16. oktoobril 2026 kell 15:30”: a full stop after the day, the month with its case ending, the 24-hour clock. “6.5 percent” became “6,5 protsendi”, but “$1,250” kept its English form with a case ending: “$1,250-ni”.
For Estonian viewers, write that amount the Estonian way, such as “1250 dollarini”, in the downloaded file.

What happens to “he” and “she” in Estonian?
Both become “ta”, which has no gender, so there is nothing to get wrong: “Our doctor said she would call back tomorrow” became “Meie arst ütles, et ta helistab homme tagasi.” Estonian nouns such as “arst” (doctor) don’t mark gender either.

FAQ
Estonian subtitle translation: questions
Is translating subtitles to Estonian free?
Yes. Up to 3 subtitle files a day, each with up to 30,000 characters of text, and no account or watermark.
How good is the translation into Estonian?
In our test of 50 sentences, translation from English into Estonian scored just under the dedicated translation system we compared it with, within the margin we set. Read the result for sina or teie and for amounts before publishing.
Will the Estonian subtitles stay in sync?
Yes. Every subtitle keeps its number and its start and end time from your file, so the Estonian appears exactly where the original did.
Do õ, ä, ö and ü display correctly?
Yes. The downloads are UTF-8 text, so Estonian letters show correctly in YouTube, editors and current players.
Can I show the original and the Estonian together?
Yes. The bilingual SRT holds the original line above the Estonian one in every subtitle, handy for learners and for checking the translation line by line.
Is my subtitle file stored?
No. Your browser opens it and sends only the subtitle text, in batches, to a cloud AI translation service, which translates it and discards it. NoteOwl keeps neither the file nor the translation.
