How it works

How do you get English subtitles for a Polish video?

To translate a Polish video to English, drop the file on this page. The browser takes out the sound, the Polish speech is transcribed and translated, and the English is cut into subtitles timed to the speech. Download the English SRT and load it in your player.

  1. 1

    Drop in the Polish video

An MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM saved from a phone, a course or a channel.

  2. 2

    Polish speech, English subtitles

Transcribed in Polish, translated, timed. Up to 30 minutes of each video.

  3. 3

    Watch or publish

Load the English SRT beside the video, or upload it with the video.

Do the English subtitles follow Polish word order?

No, they follow English. Polish can open with the time and place and end with the subject: “Dokładnie o 8:46 rano nad miastem zaległa cisza” became “Exactly at 8:46 a.m., silence fell over the city”. The English is cut into subtitles after translation, in English order.

Each English subtitle still starts when the matching Polish words are spoken, so the subtitles stay in step with the speaker even where the English rearranges a sentence.

How do the English subtitles look on screen?

Like professional subtitles: at most 2 lines of up to 42 characters, each subtitle up for 1 to 7 seconds and long enough to read at 17 characters a second. Lines break between words, preferably after punctuation.

How well does Polish speech turn into English subtitles?

Well. In our tests, Polish speech was transcribed cleanly, and whole Polish recordings translated into English rated good. Short news sentences came back plain and faithful, with place names such as Six Flags St. Louis left as they are.

Ryby często giną w efekcie wysokiej koncentracji toksyn w wodach.
EnglishFish often die as a result of high toxin concentrations in the water.
Atak wywołał ogromne napięcie pomiędzy Indiami a Pakistanem.
EnglishThe attack caused huge tension between India and Pakistan.
Autobus zmierzał do Six Flags St. Louis w Missouri, gdzie grupa miała grać koncert, który został w całości wyprzedany.
EnglishThe bus was heading to Six Flags St. Louis in Missouri, where the group was to play a concert that was completely sold out.

What happens to Polish times and numbers in the subtitles?

They become English ones. “8:46 rano”, literally 8:46 in the morning, came back as “8:46 a.m.”, and “Grand Prix Węgier w 2009 roku” became “the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix”, the year moved to where English puts it.

FAQ

Questions about English subtitles for Polish videos

Is the Polish to English video translator free?

Yes. 3 videos a day, up to 30 minutes each, with no account and no watermark. English SRT and VTT and the Polish subtitles are included.

Can I watch the video with the English subtitles on my computer?

Yes. Keep the English SRT in the same folder as the video, open the video in a player such as VLC, and choose the subtitle file from its subtitle menu.

Does it translate Polish text shown in the video?

No. Only the speech is used; the picture is never read, so signs, captions or slides in Polish stay untranslated.

Can I keep the Polish subtitles as well?

Yes. Switch the result to Original and download the Polish SRT, timed the same way. Learners of Polish can use both.

Does it replace the Polish voice with English?

No. It writes English subtitles and leaves the video and its sound exactly as they were.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Your browser separates the sound from the picture. Short pieces of the sound go to a cloud AI transcription service and the Polish text to a cloud AI translation service, both of which discard it. The picture never leaves your device.
